The Herbert TD to tie the game was a beauty. I feel bad rooting for Herbie against Bo but I admittedly do every time.

Shough went 0/2 so you could say 4 former starting Oregon QBs threw a pass today.

Probably an older quote, but I just encountered this after Mariota’s W.
Gabriel on the pre draft support he got from Mariota:
“People say not to meet their heroes or whatever, but gosh, I met mine. I’m very appreciative of him because he’s the same guy that represents the right thing.”
Love that.

I think the eta was an Oregon qb threw a pass every year in the nfl for how ever many decades it was. But the probably ended in the early 10s. Since Harrington and Feely retired about that time.73duck wrote: Sat Sep 20, 2025 7:39 am This is important for recruiting. So the broadest definition of a duck is the one to use. For years there was a crazy stat that an Oregon player was in the league every year going back to Van Brocklin in 1949. Did that streak get broken?

It was a duck player generally, not necessarily a QB. And I'm quite confident it's alive because there were also some Kellen Clemens years in there. I've tuned out recently but in those lean years they were still pulling it off.buckmarkduck wrote: Mon Sep 22, 2025 8:10 pmI think the eta was an Oregon qb threw a pass every year in the nfl for how ever many decades it was. It wouldn't be much of a stat if it was just players from U of O. It is actually quarterbacks, and it survived the late 90's by a razor thin margin as Chris Miller retired in 1995, but Bill Musgrave played in '96 and Tony Graziani played from '97 to '99. Akili from '99 to 2002, Joey from 2002 to 2007, Kellen from 2006 to 2015 (and 2017) and Marcus took the torch in 2015 and has completed a pass every year since. Hopefully we never have to rely on Tyler Shough, but I guess he would count in a pinch.
Oregon is QBU.
Edit: Just looking for fun, I could find coverage for every year except 1963 to 1965, between George Shaw and Bob Berry, who played in 1965 but didn't complete a pass. Maybe someone else knows who might have been playing those three years. Grok thinks maybe Shaw played longer than 1962 and they just didn't record stats. That seems improbable. Ironically, those are the exact three years that Terry Baker played in the NFL. Maybe whoever first published that stat made the classic Oregon/OSU mistake?

Seems people are forgetting that Dennis Dixon had a few years in the league too.

Don't be silly. I didn't mention Justion or Bo either, is that because I forgot they play in the league? I was just establishing the continuous chain, not listing every single Oregon QB who ever played in the NFL.greenyellow wrote: Tue Sep 23, 2025 2:30 pm Seems people are forgetting that Dennis Dixon had a few years in the league too.

Re: Ex-Ducks NFL Status
I spent a little time looking for non-Qb's who might have thrown a pass, guys like Mel Renfro who played those years, but I missed Dick James. So I guess the stat from 1949 is actually not 'completed a pass', but simply threw/ attempted one? That's nice and all, but I like the continuous QB chain from 1965 to now better. So since the AFL/NFL merger, there has always been a QB from the Ducks playing in the NFL.Duck07 wrote: Tue Sep 23, 2025 4:40 pm

Can we all take a moment to appreciate the greatness of the name "Dick James"?

Raiders fans don't seem happy about Jackson PJ not getting consistent starts in Vegas.
