Are you referring to Moore?

I'm hoping he comes back, but boy, projected top 3 pick is hard to turn down.

If he comes back, we're again a top 10 team. If he doesn't come back, we have a small chance to get Herbert, Gabriel, Mariota, Moore, and Bo all start on the same Sunday.

Well, I guess we have to assume that Dante is gone and the current QB2 situation leaves more questions than answers. I guess we could see another transfer QB as the starter next year.???

Why are we assuming this?

Yes, Moore.

Top 3? Where's that at? Everything I've seen has said he's 1st round talent, but could use another year in college. If we see him missing open receivers downfield, you have to think the scouts do too

Mel Kiper and Jordan Reid of ESPN both have him as the top QB in this year's draft. ESPN's "consensus" big board has Dante as the #4 overall player. Matt Moore of ESPN has the Browns taking Moore at #2. Pro Football Focus has him #2 on their draft board.

I'm not an NFL guy. I don't personally know squat, other than a top draft pick makes a lot of money and coming back carries injury and performance risk.

Simply based on what I've read as a consensus #2 QB going at pick 5-15, and this years QB class being thin. Next years class is projected deeper. Even a big NIL bump doesn't compare to a projected NFL deal.

I of course hope he comes back and he could be a shoe in for the #1 pick next year, but he also would risk sliding from the #2-3 spot.

It's really not about getting drafted the highest; it's about going to the best situation possible. Going to Cleveland, NYJ, or Las Vegas are not that.

They'll all be back at the top of the draft next year too.

Cam Ward signed for somewhere around 4/48M with a 32M signing bonus.

Thats a serious amount of money to turn down or risk for injury on the assumption that by staying you'll grow so much that the future earnings offset what you'd miss out on.

I do think the coaches will look to the portal for a QB if Moore leaves. Not to say someone on our roster couldn't step in and do a good job, but when guys like Raiola and Leavitt are in the portal, you gotta take em if we can.

Makes sense why I haven't seen that. Kiper is a moron, and I don't read much of what espn has to say in general.

TCU's Josh Hoover is entering the portal. Him and Drew Mestemaker (North Texas) are pretty comparable in my eyes. Both have NFL arms but prone to stupid mistakes.

This^^^^

A QB isn't going to be effective if they're constantly on their back or running for their life. I understand the allure of the fat payday and security for his family, though.

Unfortunately, when you're a top level talent, this is the situation you almost always end up in. Teams with needs everywhere, particularly on the O-Line and at receiver, usually pick at the top.

I don't see it being much, if any, different next year. If he has an average or less impressive year at Oregon next year, it could cost him millions of dollars, although he'd likely be in a better situation with a better team. I hate to say it, but I think he should make the jump now. Asking him to come back would be purely for selfish reasons.

That said, I'd like to see the Ducks grab Sam Leavitt. He's accurate, he can run, he played under a similar system under Dilly at ASU, AND he has CFP experience. I think he could step in and the Ducks wouldn't miss a beat - as long as they can fill the other holes on offense, particularly the O-Line.

People keep saying that if Moore waits until next year, he might not get drafted as high/ might not have as impressive a year. Do we really think if he came back he would do worse as the Duck qb than he did this year? Most Duck quarterbacks end up looking pretty good don't they? Aren't even the portal qb's kind of waiting in line to see if they can be the one to get the Oregon bump? I don't think that would be the issue. Maybe it's that there would be more competition next year in terms of other good qb's also graduating.

Having a better qb class might be better for him. Where he winds up is probably more important than the money. Ending up on the jets, raiders, or Browns is nearly a death sentence for any qb. All 3 are poorly coached, with bad ownership.
