S Kingston Lopa entering portal
S Kingston Lopa will be entering the transfer portal. Secondary is really thinning out with games still remaining. Have to think Trey McNutt will get some looks now.

I actually liked Lopa, and wondered if he wouldn’t be a good LB. I like him a lot better than the transfer from Alabama.

Wonder if the way the backups played yesterday factored into them leaving now. Seems like weird timing after the first playoff game. Think the portal opens on the 2nd though.

He wasn’t a player that I felt had bad effort, but maybe I missed it. I really think Lanning was using the second half last night as an audition for next season so I expect to see a few more defensive transfers in the coming days.

I was under the impression players could still play during the playoff run if they and the team wanted them too.
Such a weird position to be in where you have to decide being a part of a championship run or going to a new school.

The portal window is bazaar. I get guys want to get onto the new school for spring, but leaving your team mid playoffs is dumb. Of course it could also be fixed if the took Dans advice, and played the playoffs starting the week after the conference title games. Then have the title game done the first week on JanuaryDuck07 wrote: Sun Dec 21, 2025 6:23 pm I was under the impression players could still play during the playoff run if they and the team wanted them too.

Could be a knee-jerk reaction. Can’t recall his play specifically, but Dan may have laid into him, and he was just done. Going to watch the game a second time to see. The timing is sketchy. Still don’t understand playing on a playoff team, and quitting. I’m not necessarily hoping he has a great career. My middle finger is kind of up, see ya kid.

According to google, lol, a player can enter the portal and still play in the playoffs or bowl games. It sounds like it is Dan’s decision not to play them. Tough place to be for both team and player.Duck07 wrote: Sun Dec 21, 2025 6:23 pm I was under the impression players could still play during the playoff run if they and the team wanted them too.

Yes, a college football player can enter the transfer portal and still play in their current team's playoff or bowl games, as NCAA rules don't automatically disqualify them, but it's entirely up to their coach and school's discretion, with many coaches choosing not to play players who intend to leave, creating a tough situation during the playoffs.

Re: S Kingston Lopa entering portal
From my understanding, the portal window timing is just terrible, which is why fixing the calendar for CFB should really be the #1 priority. I know Dan, other coaches, and media have all mentioned it.
Basically, it hurts the student-athletes if they declare late for the portal in terms of offers and best options. So yeah, I hate it and it feels like guys are quitting on the team during the playoffs, but it's also hard to fault them.

This one stings. Lopa is a rotation guy that played in every game this season. I hope we find out why he is leaving. The timing makes it feel like a reaction to Saturday's game, but maybe just a function of the calendar as has been discussed.

He’s an injury away from playing full minutes in the playoffs. Don’t get it.
