According to those that have watched him practice, Thomas isn't even that fast. As Kelly says, he's a quarterback who can run a little. Just from reading Moseley's reports on him (I didn't even get to see him play against BSU 2 years ago), he's great at making people miss and has enough speed to make plays, but it doesn't sound like we should exactly be expecting Masoli/Dixon type running numbers... Just a guessgreenyellow wrote:I agree. I think on running plays with Darron Thomas you aren't going to see him bowl over players like JM, but run by them with his speed and avoid major hits, like Dennis Dixon. I'm not saying he's going to be just like him, but his style is very similar. The passing game will be emphasized more with DT because Kelly sort of allows Masoli to take a beating since he's built a little more sturdier than most QBs.NCDucks09 wrote:Agreed. DT is a better passer and has way more touch on the ball than Masoli. DT could really be a DD v.2, when he learns the offense fully, gets some more game experience, and the action slows down for him.karlhungis wrote:
I don't think we will be "devastated" at QB when Masoli leaves. If anything, we may actually become a more balanced offense.
I think you'll see this year in any blowouts, that you'll see a lot of DT in the 4th quarter to build that experience.

That's what Bellotti and Kelly have been saying about their spread option qb's since the beginning of time. Lol.glazeduck wrote:As Kelly says, he's a quarterback who can run a little.
Remember, LSU was recruiting DT not as a QB, but as a WR! He even said coming in with the class with Harper and Masoli that if he didn't work out at QB, he would gladly switch to WR.
I've watched him play in the Spring Games, he often is too focused on the passing game and when he looks to run, it's too late and a DE or LB is crashing down on him at full speed. I think his top end is faster than Masoli, but he needs to work on his lateral and starting quickness and explosion. Something I'm sure after this spring and summer workouts he'll have been working on.
We also have D.Hawkins, and you never know, that kid is also a tall fast athlete with a rocket for an arm.

Well at least I made a BA signature...and I was talking about Bennett at QB...don't know why I typed Baxter there.UOducksTK1 wrote:Awesome signature, ignorant post.Caleb M wrote:Seastrunk would be huge...though at this point we really don't need him. Baxter is a huge recruit we have, as once Masoli is gone we'll be devestated at QB. That guy's a scrambler and a great passer. Curtis White will take over Ed Dickson's spot wonderfully, I see great things coming from that guy.

Devastated may not be the right word...but I don't think DT will be able to be Dennis Dixon. Bryan Bennett though, I have high hopes for him. He's a great scrambler, has good strength, and a very accurate arm. If he performs like they say he can, Bennett may just be better than Dixon.NCDucks09 wrote:Agreed. We need a passing QB who can run/scrabble more than anything...like DT and Bennett I can't wait to see our offense with a passing attack because I pretty sure we have the running thing down!

Oh well yes, if we lost Bennett that would hurt a lot. DT would basically be our only QB with Hawkins backing him up. Definitely not the type of depth we'd like next year.Caleb M wrote:Well at least I made a BA signature...and I was talking about Bennett at QB...don't know why I typed Baxter there.UOducksTK1 wrote:Awesome signature, ignorant post.Caleb M wrote:Seastrunk would be huge...though at this point we really don't need him. Yeah, no doubt. I hope DT is everything people are saying he is...UOducksTK1 wrote:Oh well yes, if we lost Bennett that would hurt a lot.
