Doesn't appear he made many appearances at USC. He was supposed to be a big part of USC's rotation but a preseason broken hand and then season-ending Tommy John surgery derailed his season. Could be a potential starter or key reliever depending on how he rehabs from the elbow surgery.

I think the pitching staff is in really good shape. I think if they can retain one of Gosztola or Scolari and add another bullpen piece and a closer, we’re set. Expect some of those young g guys to make another jump and get back both Umlandt and Featherston.

Ya that sucks. He's probably the best defensive catcher in the country. And his bat was certainly coming around.

Absolute garbage that he'd rather go to Starkville than stay in Eugene.

I can’t necessarily fault any of the baseball kids. They’re getting big pay days. It’s what we do to other schools in football. Still sucks though.greenyellow wrote: Wed Jun 24, 2026 10:53 amAbsolute garbage that he'd rather go to Starkville than stay in Eugene.

Another major issue that even Oregon's Diamond Ducks NIL collective admits is Oregon still only funds the program at the old 11.7 scholarship limit instead of the new 34 scholarship limit. That means Oregon is offering considerably less money than most SEC programs even without NIL. It's going to be like this for a few more years until Oregon gets a full Big Ten media share. Have to wonder if Waz will stick it out until then.

I'm probably biased cuz I hate to see all our development go away. However! I do think baseball is a little different than football. Setting yourself for the highest draft position is probably most valuable when it comes to Baseball (especially if you only have one more year left).HomeSickDuck wrote: Wed Jun 24, 2026 11:27 amI can’t necessarily fault any of the baseball kids. In Mabeus' situation, he's probably going to get about $30-50k more than he'd get at Oregon. Maybe a bit more? but I'd imagine that's probably pretty accurate.
If Oregon can convince him that staying with the Ducks can help him be drafted higher than if he was at Mississippi State, then that will hold more value financially to him than the little extra he gets for one year.
Draft Position + signing bonus:
Round 1 $4,500,000 – $5,000,000
Round 2 $1,750,000
Round 3 $900,000
Round 4 $620,000
Round 5 $480,000
Round 6 $360,000
Round 7 $280,000
Round 8 $220,000
Round 9 $190,000
Round 10 $175,000
Rounds 11–20 $50,000 – $125,000
Hopefully the coaches are giving a similar spiel to their guys that are leaving. And I will say, most guys numbers at Oregon are almost for sure going to be better than in the SEC. Cole Stokes and Santiago Garcia certainly would have benefitted staying at Oregon instead of leaving for FSU/LSU...
