It is true that they both don't play the same position, but this coaching staff is letting every position be up for grabs, and if owa commits, I can almost guarantee that, barring injury, he would get the other end spot and contribute right away. I believe gave wants to come into a situation that is similar to owas, so that's why he would go to cal.
With Tukuafu gone I'm sure he'd probably be in the mix. At the very least I think we'd see Owa as a situational pass rusher. With Owa and Rowe coming off the edges, it could make life for our DB's much easier.

So you're saying he's going to come in play at the DE position. Not sure Cal's the best choice for playing time anyway, don't think they lost alot on the D line. I think Alualu? was a SR.
True they don't lose much on the d line, but neither do we. Plus, we may sign 2 or 3 more d linemen this class other than him, while cal is hardly signing any d linemen this class. Less competition within the same class.

He may contribute, but I think his chance of starting right off the bat is somewhere between 0% and 10%. The ONLY way he starts is if he graduates early and enrolls in the spring, has an incredible spring where he learns more pass rushing techniques than most players can, and matures physically. Not to say he wont see some spot pt but he will not start.
If you have seen owa play, you would know that he has the physical tools and all the abilities to start right away. I'm not saying he necessarily will, but it is not inconceivable that he wouldn't. Gabe, on the other hand, would have to wait his turn, which he may not be willing to do.
Why do you guys think its one or the other? I dont get it. They play 2 diffrent positions and if you were King you would want to see Owa because he will help free you up and vice versa.

They're saying that's what King has said...or that's what they've heard he said

We would have the returning sack leader of the Pac 10 in Kenny Rowe and Owa on the other end... Sounds like we are the final 2 for Owa, and his mom does not want him to go out of state. OSU is making a strong push as of late, trying to win over mom but Owa is not really interested... If we land Owa, we will not get Gabe.
