I’ve seen enough, it’s time for Wasikowski to go. Our LB play is horrendous. I know it won’t happen but I hope I never seen Wasikowski coach LB’s at Oregon again.

I appreciate his analysis and his observations that the problem here wasn't effort/fire/etc. So many people say stuff like that whenever we're getting beat. I saw plenty of effort on Saturday, just not a lot in the way of results.

Completely garbage take. You freaking kidding me??? Like worst take ever. 1 TFL, zero sacks by supposedly their strength, the D-line. Keep smoking what you’re smoking. Getting beat consistently from what should be your biggest factor, has ZERO excuses. Just stop it man. They got the sh*t beat out of them on both lines. It’s ALL about effort, don’t give a sh*t about crappy play calling. O-line gets a little slack because of no continuity and young players. It comes down to beating your man, and either its players being paid, and not caring, or they just got beat by better trenches, which I will never buy. Plenty of effort??? Freaking joke of a commment. 500+yards against says there wasn’t any effort.pezsez1 wrote: Sun Sep 13, 2026 11:18 pm I appreciate his analysis and his observations that the problem here wasn't effort/fire/etc. So many people say stuff like that whenever we're getting beat. I think there’s truth to both, yes, effort is an issue, we saw guys getting pushed around, but also dudes look lost, dudes look like they have no coaching at all. Hampton deserves a ton of criticism but ultimately I think the defensive position coaches deserve more blame, which I am aware includes Hampton as our safeties are playing awful. I’m sick of the coordinator excuses personally, and I think Mehringer is a joke, but even I have to admit when your position coaches aren’t teaching crap the play calls don’t matter. Same with our offense, our OLine is a disaster and their stance tells the opposing defenses the type of play we’re running and our “NFL” QB might know what ice cream he likes best but misses open receivers constantly, especially in crucial moments. Effort matters and the effort has been lacking by the players, but the effort has been lacking more by the coaches. Feels like Lanning’s “player led” style is scapegoating or gaslighting.Everythingsducky wrote:Garbage take. You freaking kidding me??? Re: #2 Oregon @ Oklahoma State (Sept. 12, Sat 9 AM ESPN/Disney+)
Effort, means there was even pressure on the QB. Their QB had all day, could have knitted a quilt back there, taken a nap, had lunch, then threw the ball. So much crap about the Ducks D-line strength. They couldn’t beat a Portland State tackle transfer. Mostly it was four on four. And the Ducks were a mere whimper. These are four and five year players on the D-line. They are most likely the highest paid unit on the team. They all believe they are first rounders. The way they are playing so far, they are losing big money and draft slots. They absolutely need to play with way more intensified fire/effort. They are a joke unit right now. Would you be scared of them right now? I would run it right down the Ducks throat if I were an opposing team. They ain’t stopping it. The offense didn’t help at all (only created 14 points themselves).

I’m not arguing that the players are giving effort, they aren’t, it’s as simple as that, but I’m saying the coaching staff is just as guilty and also aren’t giving effort.

I would argue they ARE giving what they got. They just don’t have the acumen, experience, or plain chops to have earned their positions. Look at the experience Lupoi had prior. Massive. These two are way too green. I’m sure they are trying, they just don’t have the required experience at their positions for a team with Natty posibilities. They both were stupid moves by Lanning. I’m sure he is hearing about it from Mullens and/or possibly Knight. Just dumb hires. How many top flight coordinators would have loved to coach this team this year, and the money they could have made? So much more of a talent pool than these two guys, especially where the Ducks were supposedly headed. ‘Hey, we’re on the verge of possibly being able to play for the Natty! Let’s bring on two unqualified coordinators to get us there’. Lanning is getting blasted, and rightly so, for the same kind of weird decisions he makes on 4th down calls. He just freaking wings it. That won’t get it done. And he looks like an idiot, on many fronts right now. He is a punching bag, nationally, and rightly so.OregonFan4Life wrote: Mon Sep 14, 2026 12:09 am I’m not arguing that the players are giving effort, they aren’t, it’s as simple as that, but I’m saying the coaching staff is just as guilty and also aren’t giving effort.

Re: #2 Oregon @ Oklahoma State (Sept. 12, Sat 9 AM ESPN/Disney+)
Fair take, then if anything it’s Lanning who isn’t giving effort and to me that’s a very fair assessment. He keeps hiring people without doing any sort of outside search, just promoting guys within that he likes. Heck he gave our Heisman NFL QB a coach that never coached or played the position before and was on the defense last year, also promoted an offensive analyst to Defensive Edge coach. Lanning got cocky and complacent with his hires and continued to hire guys with little to no experience that he liked and now as a result we have an offensive coaching staff that is completely overwhelmed, over their head, and a national laughing stock. So hopefully we can at least agree Lanning is not giving effort with coaching hires.Everythingsducky wrote:I would argue they ARE giving what they got. Re: #2 Oregon @ Oklahoma State (Sept. 12, Sat 9 AM ESPN/Disney+)
This defense is clearly poorly coached. LBs especially seem to have no idea what they’re doing, which has basically been the case every year under Lanning. LB is a weakness every single year.
I was neutral on the coordinator hires before the season but man, if things don’t drastically change over the next few games Lanning has some hard decisions to make. Feels like a program defining moment where he either realizes he severely over-estimated his system—thinking it was already to the point of being self sustaining, changes course, and brings in veteran, proven coaches from outside his coaching tree, or he doubles down and eventually goes down with the ship.
Because what we’re seeing on both sides of the ball will lead to everyone eventually losing their jobs if left unchanged. Every coach makes bad hires from time to time, but the greats can always admit it and change course when it’s the case. The guys who can’t end up being footnotes.

Yeah, it turns out losing both coordinators is actually a big deal. I think Lanning will get this figured out, but I have to feel for him. Replacing an O.C. every year or two and trying to stay on top of college football has got to suck. Maybe he needs to get an old salt in there who has already pursued his head coaching ambitions, or never had any. Not necessarily Chip, but someone like that.

You're one of those people who thinks we should just be able to "fire and effort" our way to a championship, but football isn't that simple, and that's why it's a great sport. People love saying how sports are like chess, but I don't think any sport is really like chess in the way football is. Coaching is EVERYTHING. You have shitty coaches and you aren't winning s*** no matter how much "fire and effort" you play with.
The coaching this season has been s*** and if you can't see that now then you probably never will. Read the room.

Re: #2 Oregon @ Oklahoma State (Sept. 12, Sat 9 AM ESPN/Disney+)
Landon Tangwall did a good breakdown of the defensive issues on display on Saturday. I found this Nate Lee film study of our offense equally enlightening that broke down how multiple OL issues, poor blocking, poor improvisation, and poor play calling all factored into awful offensive performance on saturday:
In addition, I stumbled up on this post ([twitter]https://twitter.com/AndrewNemec/status/ ... 6019172670[/twitter]) that suggests that Dante Moore and/or the OL was tipping whether we had a run/pass play call dialed up presnap which would help explain why OSU always seemed to make the right guess as to when to drop or rush their outside linebackers during the game.
After watching the Tangwell, Nate Lee, and addicted to quack film studies I don't have much optimism that all of mistakes being made by this team will get cleaned up enough to make the playoffs this year. It seems likely that a staff shakeup and renewed focus on team culture is needed to fix the foundation of this program.

I must be getting older, this game didn't affect me as much as games like this have in the past. Remember that Stanford game when Joey and Co. were up two touchdowns in the 4th quarter and they blew the game for the only loss of the season? I was devastated after that game, my new wife was wondering what the heck she got herself into. We laugh about it now. This one sucked, but If Notre Dame can lose to northern Illinois and still make the playoffs, Oregon still has hope. Hopefully they can clean this up - stop telegraphing run/pass plays, respond more quickly on defense, etc. Use the PSU game to shake up the depth chart maybe.

Re: #2 Oregon @ Oklahoma State (Sept. 12, Sat 9 AM ESPN/Disney+)
I love when we have common ground. Same here. I've never been one to get angry when we lose, but definitely in the past there were some games that really left me feeling down. (I remember that Stanford game, that was brutal!)I must be getting older, this game didn't affect me as much as games like this have in the past.
My philosophy now is to just have fun watching the games. I always gather with family and/or friends, and we put some thought into whatever our gameday meal is going to be. We slacked a bit against Okla State because of it being 9 a.m., but the week before, I smoked a pork butt while my brother made homemade tortilla chips and we had amazing pulled-pork nachos. We drink whiskey, good tequila, etc., just do all we can to "win the day" just in case the Ducks fall short.
