Now who does Dan have call plays the rest of the season? The QB and OL coach still need to be let go ASAP as well. They are actively harming player development.

I highly doubt they’ll be here next season. I’d say let Douglas call plays, if not, Samples. It’s time to think about 2027, and honestly I highly doubt Douglas and Samples are the long term solution at playcaller, but I also doubt they’re worse than Mehringer.Xenocide23 wrote:Now who does Dan have call plays the rest of the season? I reached out to someone who is close friends with a player, and apparently Drew was fired yesterday and the players were told yesterday.

Good. I imagine he feels lousy today but he never should have been hired. His record told the story but we hired him anyway. To me he was the worst of some inept coaches and this includes Hoke. Perhaps a high school or junior college position might work. Gawd, he was really bad.

Finally! We are free!!!!
Now, fire up that nationwide search. Leave no stone unturned. Imagine what this team could be with a real offensive mastermind!

Good start.
Next step is to let his replacement evaluate the remaining staff on offense and bring in his own people / conduct a proper search for new position coaches.
Wouldn't mind seeing Ross Douglas stay.
But I wouldn't turn away a top choice at OC if they wanted to bring in a new WR coach, either.

Agreed. The experiment is over, time to completely hand over the keys of the offense. If the next guy wants to clean house then so be it.wepto wrote:Good start.

And frankly, if he’s at all competent he’ll immediately identify how bad coaches like Terry are. Which will just highlight how poorly Lanning managed this offensive staff.

Was the swinging gate play where he ran into the teeth of the defense the final straw? That play was everywhere being mocked.

The Seinfeld Reverse! (A reverse into nothing.)Was the swinging gate play where he ran into the teeth of the defense the final straw? That play was everywhere being mocked.
That was one of the most laughably bad Oregon plays I've ever seen. I like pretty much the entire Illinois defense didn't even move, like they were already tired of our BS and just wanted to make another tackle haha.
Did that play actually work in practice against OUR defense? Yikes.
Willie Taggart is a dick.

Ya you gotta imagine Ka’ai and Terry gotta go too. Our OL and QB play had been a modern era historic low for Oregon.wepto wrote: Sun Oct 25, 2026 10:48 am Good start.

I like to think that that was the play that did it, and every time they showed Lanning on tv all that was going through his head was "I can't wait to fire this dumb SoB"Phalanx wrote: Sun Oct 25, 2026 12:54 pm Was the swinging gate play where he ran into the teeth of the defense the final straw? To me the moment Dan was down with Drew was after that delay or game to start the drive after the Illinois TD to go up 21-10. Guys were disorganized/lost and didn’t know where they needed to be, and you could just tell that Dan hit that spot that where even though he liked Drew, he was just done. If any if you are curious, go rewatch that moment, as someone in a management position, I 100% know that face.
