Mehringer fired per CBS Sports
I’ve built some random connections to current Oregon players in random ways, and I won’t name names out of respect for those I’m getting info from, but I’m basically hearing the culture on offense was completely broken, and while Drew never should’ve gotten the job, he was sort of a scapegoat. But I’m hearing indirectly from some players that a lot of guys on offense didn’t work out during the summer, haven’t been trying at practice, and essentially don’t care about football or Oregon football and are just there to collect paychecks.
I’ve even heard of situations where offensive players that were not on the active roster for away games, whether injury or just buried on the depth chart, opted not to travel with the team and didn’t even watch the game.
I’ve also heard there are guys with talent on offense who have been urged by coaches to practice harder as they have a real shot at the NFL, but said they don’t care if they make it to the NFL or not.
Don’t be surprised if we see a mass exodus with offensive players this offseason.

I have a hard time believing that kind of culture would exist with Lanning in charge. The only way I can see that happening is if he is completely hands off with the offense, and puts 100% trust in the OC. If that's the case, mehringer's failure isn't just at being the OC, but also in being someone these kids can look up to.OregonFan4Life wrote: Mon Oct 26, 2026 1:17 pm I’ve built some random connections to current Oregon players in random ways, and I won’t name names out of respect for those I’m getting info from, but I’m basically hearing the culture on offense was completely broken, and while Drew never should’ve gotten the job, he was sort of a scapegoat. Mehringer fired per CBS Sports
Edit: nvm, spoke too soon. Looked him up, he has a lot of OC experience. Not great, but a lot, and he’s 57 year old. Right choice for interim OC.dthomas=ddixon wrote:Lanning announced analyst Jay Johnson as interim OC.

I was going to say, he seems more qualified than Mehringer haha.OregonFan4Life wrote:Edit: nvm, spoke too soon. Looked him up, he has a lot of OC experience. Wyoming fans on Twitter are saying Jay sucks as a playcaller, we shall see what he’s able to do.

Hate 3rd party conversations. Most aren’t credible. Ducks will lose some players this offseason. Some welcomed to leave, others will hurt. But money still talks, and hopefully the donors don’t recede. It will be largely dependent on whom Lanning hires as OC. Hope the new OC cleans house for some of the current staff. Lots of uncertainty that just depends on the hire, and whom they pick out of the portal at QB and O-line.

Holy crap, warning to everyone else. Please do not look up Jay Johnson's tenure as OC at Wyoming. It's ugly.

I’d love to know how much Johnson’s been involved with the offense the last two weeks. Maybe I misunderstood Lanning but he seemed to indicate that one of the internal changes they made was having Johnson more involved but with Mehringer still calling plays.
Regardless, really hope we’re done with the swinging gate and defensive lineman playing OL.

I’m watching some all 22 and film analysis, and while Drew deserves to be fired, I stand by he’s sort of a scapegoat. Terry and Ka’ai are just as much to blame, if not more in some ways. There is absolutely 0 development of QB’s and the OLine. Raiola started two games at Oregon and those have easily been worse than any game he started at Nebraska. OLineman literally get worse the longer they are here. If Terry and/or Ka’ai are here next season then I’m not sure about Lanning.
Don’t plan on any sort of improvement on the offense for the rest of the season.

Advice…just let this season go. Most, if not all of the O-staff are most likely gone, as will that offensive philosophy. Hope they win a few, but will be difficult. Dan almost has to nail this hire, or he could be in trouble.

I think there's a very real possibility they don't get bowl eligible now. There's almost no chance they beat Northwestern or Ohio State. That'd leave them needing to win 2 of 3 against Michigan, Michigan State, and Washington.

Everything being said sounds really bad, and I wonder why Jay Johnson is even on staff, I’m underwhelmed by his resume.

Unless Dan has stopped going to practice, I am sure he saw the offense working on this play during the week. These aren't the kind of plays you pull out of thin air from practicing a couple times in fall camp. Once you put it in the week's playbook, you prep it.
