Here's the pattern I see.
When our offense isn't good, it's the players fault
When our defense isn't good, it's the coordinators fault.

Yes, time for me to get back on track too...
Getting Owa would be huge, and losing him to anyone out of state would be a giant disappointment.
You've got to admit though... people think Nebraska, and they think defense. Plus, it's Nebraska.
Long ago I wrote a story about male and female athletes. I was chatting with former women's track coach Tom Heinonen (who was still with UO at the time), and one of the big points he raised was that male athletes are far more inclined to choose a school based on tradition/history, whereas women are more likely to choose based on how much scholarship money they'll get.
History is important. Oregon can buy flashy uniforms, install multimillion dollar locker rooms, expand the stadium and win the Pac-10 with a two-game lead over all the rest... but we can't go back in time and reinvent history.

I find your response to be trite and humorous.pezsez1 wrote:I know! Why were we playing Masoli and LMJ at cornerback? I'll tell you why.... it's because NA was too scared to trust Cliff Harris and our other young corners! He couldn't coach them up if he tried!!!There is no point, which is why it has LESS to do with the players and MORE to do with the coaches and how they coach the player and the schemes they design.
Dang, I was just starting to feel smarter.

Re: AMP Weekley Whispers: Owa
Here's the pattern I see. These numbers are Oregon's defensive rankings by total defense compared with the numbers for total offense in parentheses. The reason I show UCLA in the first year of the decade is because allowalotti was the DC for just that season after having left Oregon.Hoagduck wrote:Here's the pattern I see.

UCLA 1999-00: 92 (t-63)
OREGON 1999-00 32 (34)
2000-01: 81 (22)
2001-02: 94 (60)
2002-03: 50 (57)
2003-04: 35 (37)
2004-05: 44 (18)
2005-06: 42 (9)
2006-07: 60 (10)
2008-09: 82 (7)
2009-10: 35 (34)
This is my entire point about na and why Oregon will always have trouble getting the premier defensive recruits like Owa. Further Hoag, we've had 4 different OC's this last decade, our best year on D was the year na was in westwood.

I'm sorry but when you blame EVERYTHING that goes wrong on the defensive side of the ball on NA, you lose all credibilty. Yes, NA is not a great D-coord, I think all sane fans can see & realize that. But when you hear that Owa's in home with Nebraska went really well & the first thing that you post is its NA's fault, you show a definitely bias that can't be taken seriously. It just makes you sound like a little child who can't handle any kind of dissapointment.
When Pryor went to tOSU over the Ducks, why weren't you same people calling out Kelly. I mean, Pryor would have been perfect for the spread so Chip should have been able to pull him to the Ducks right? You say if NA had a better D then these top rated defensive players would come here. But Chip is considered to be one of, if not the best Offensive minds in the nation & we are still having trouble getting the top offensive players. Maybe it has more to do with the fact that we just aren't an elite team & unitl we prove we can go to & win BCS bowls, we won't be considered one.
I'm no NA supporter, not even close. I have wanted us to go after a different D-coord for awhile. But not every freaking thing that doesn't go right on D is his fault. His schemes suck & handicap our athletes on D. We had the most talented secondaries in the county for a few years but somehow they were continually picked about. But missing on Owa is not all NA's fault. NA has recruited tons of talent on D, missing one guy is not on NA.

Heard a rumor the other day that the only reason that Tom Cable hasn't been fired in Oakland yet is that Al Davis knows Kiffin wants Cable as his D Coordinator, so to screw Kiffin (cuz clearly they're not BFF) he's waiting until Lane hires a backup option to fire Cable. Would you want him as a NA replacement?
I know the thing about Cable hitting an assistant isn't exactly awesome, but Cable's got NFL experience and if he's good enough for SC he can't be worse than Allowalotti. Bringing Cable in would enhance our already solid recruiting in Cali...
And oh yeah, it'd get rid of NA.
Wilcox would be good too.

I've never once said everything is his fault. Am I always critical of the guy? Yes.dthomas=ddixon wrote:I'm sorry but when you blame EVERYTHING that goes wrong on the defensive side of the ball on NA, you lose all credibilty. As for Pryor, if his ultimate goal is to be an NFL qb, playing in a pro style offense in columbus is a better fit for him in the long run than practicing a spread in eugene.
After a decade at the helm, na and oregon have earned the rep of being a poor d. Now, if we miss on Owa it will not be all na's fault. However, one of his main reasons for preferring Nebraska over Oregon IS their defense. So, if Oregon had a more elite defense, the more likely it is we attract other premier defensive players, not just the ones that live in the state.

Tom Cable has a offensive background, not Defensive. So im not sure there is any weight to that rumor what so ever.

Duck07 "I'm done arguing this point."
Why 3 more posts on it then? I think we got the point.
it is a bit entertaining though, thanks

And think about this, when has the kid EVER won out over the parents desire? Can you remember one time the parent gave way? Seriously, every recruiting process that I've followed where the recruit was trying to convince his parents to let him go far away from home, the parent has won in the end. Every time.
