I am not sure how anyone can say a verbal commitment from a high school junior is "locked up". I think it means we are leading but I doubt that most juniors are thinking about how far they will have to move away from all of their friends, families, girlfriends or local hobbies/activities. They won't be able to jump in the car and drive 6 hours for a weekend visit. As much as some people keep complaining about the "religion card" the truth is the culture out here is different from most of the mid west and farther east. It just hasn't hit many of them yet. They are excited about playing senior ball next year and getting to brag to their buddies about already making a college team. I think it is good to take chances on young talent and be aggressive, but there is still a long ways to go before they actually sign the LOI and will probably be recruited very hard next year by some big time schools. 2010 is looking awesome but until feb of next year we still have 0 players.

That's irrelevant. Look at Oregon's in-state talent compared to theirs. Clemson gets 8-9 4 stars consistently per year from South Carolina, same for other schools on the East Coast like that. Look at Oregon this year, not 1 4 star according to Rivals. So Oregon HAS to recruit like this if the program is really going to be a powerhouse
and contend with USC, which is certainly possible.

If there was really that much of a year-to-year talent disparity Clemson wouldn't be incredibly mediocre and Oregon wouldn't be a very strong program.

And for all you people that took me literally, I don't actually consider myself a genius for saying Tajh Boyd won't come here... obviously i'm disappointed that all signs are pointing towards Tajh Boyd not coming here, and I'm pissed that I'm right about Oregon not being primed for East Coast recruiting.

If everyone on here is gonna be an optimism-nazi, then maybe I'll go find a place to post where I'm allowed to criticize the coaching staff and their recruiting strategy if I feel like it. There is a very simple reality here:

1) If you don't want your thread picked apart, temper your hyperbole and make a more thorough, reasoned, and exampled argurment.

2) If you start a thread to generate discourse about our beloved Ducks, make it about them, not about you.

3) Is it reasonable to expect a positive response when you are being self-congratulatory in reference to what would be a negative scenario for Oregon? (Not very)

4) You may have a point, but you are arguing semantics- which is fine as long as there is the acknowledgement that neither you nor the vast majority of us who post here have a fulll picture of the process and the plan. (I'm guessing that 77 in your name means either you were born or graduated in '77... in either case things have undoubtedly changed a lot since your day in the sun.)

5) All National powers recruit nationally (it's part of the defintion of one); therefore the ducks will not be a national power until they do. We can argue the chicken or the egg between recuiting and winning, but it doesn't change the aforementioned.

6) I for one am very interesting in having a dialogue over the benefits of recruiting so heavily on a national level at this stage of their progression as I'd imagine most others here are as well.

The reason people are smashing you is all signs don't point to Tajh going other places. He is doing what a lot of high profile recruits do and play the fan bases of the schools who follow recruiting for fools.

I like how you throw out "maybe I'll go some where else..." like some sort of threat. If most people are like me they probably don't care if you stay or go. Post here and be negative Nancy, or don't.

You must like mediocrity....at least that's how you come across. Boyd contacted Chip...Should Chip have said ?" Sorry, we don't recruit east of the Mississippi. It's too hard and we might get our feelings hurt if we're rejected again" Chip feels he can recruit anywhere. Sure, it's harder when distance is involved. Even if the Ducks just get 1 out of 10, that is 1 more than they would get with your attitude. If you want to be the best, you go after the best. We may never become USC, Oklahoma, Texas or LSU...but we have zero chance thinking like you.

First off, I'm 22 years old.... the 77 is just a number. I tripped to ASU, USC, Utah, Syracuse, and FAU out of high school. Ended up signing with ASU, but I transferred to Oregon later.

Listen, sorry for the thread title people, poor choice of words or whatever. But, I really don't care anymore if people on here think I was being self-congratulatory or arrogant by saying "I think I was right". The thing is, like everyone else, I want more than anything for Oregon to land a great recruiting class year after year, and right now it makes me angry that ASU (used to go there, and I hate that place) is getting Cameron Marshall, and might steal Vontaze Burfict from USC. They're about to out-recruit us... i'm sooooo pissed about it. ASU sucks. We murder them every year, and their facilities aren't nearly as nice as Oregon's.

With our new coaches and their eastern influence, we will do even better recruiting. Like someone else mentioned, it doesn't always matter if we get the recruit since the Oregon name is getting out there. It will take more time and talent to get us where we want to be. Patience is key.
