The thing that worries me about putting DT in there is that he really hasn't faced a hostile stadium. We don't know how he'll handle the noise of an away game. Nate wouldn't worry me in this aspect, but his lack of mobility and history of injury really worry me when running the offense. Not having a running threat at QB allows the D to focus on the RBs, but this can be mitigated if the passing game has a chance to get going.Penky26 wrote:i agree with mjenk. DT has been here for a while now and has had plenty of time to learn the system. I think the Boise experience he got can only help him going forward.
Secondly, this is truly disappointing to see that JM was involved in this. Another year where imo we had national title hopes and now I would question how legitimate we are as pac 10 contenders based on the type of road games we have.

I agree. A qb getting his first road start at Tennessee, then still having to go to USC, Cal and OSU. Not a good thing at all.

Re: Masoli charged
I think they may start Costa at the beginning of the season and switch to DT later on if the coaches feel DT can handle the job or Costa is not working out. We could possibly have a situation where they bring one QB on just to run a certain set of plays and then another to run another set. I hope this isn't the case and someone wins the job outright and holds it.Penky26 wrote:I agree. A qb getting his first road start at Tennessee, then still having to go to USC, Cal and OSU. I kind of look at it this way. Chip had Dennis Dixon and Roper ready to go (remember how worried we were about them coming in?) Also, if we can get through the Cody Kempt/Chris Harper/Brady Leaf poo-poo platter, I'm pretty excited to at least have Costa, Hawkins and DT as backups!

It pretty much did happen with Dixon right away. He was in Crowton's offense when he sucked. Dixon played one year with Chip and was instantly successful when many thought Brady Leaf might be better for the team... BRADY LEAF!!duckgrad99 wrote:Just my opinion, but I think DT will be better than Masoli. It may not happen right away, but it didn't happen with Dixon right away either. We might have to get used to Thomas and Seastrunk, who knows!!!! We might not be as good as expected next year. Frustrating, but what can you do? I still think we will be pretty good though.

Re: Masoli charged
what makes this hurt more is that the Pac10 is truly up for grabs instead of it being viewed as a race for second. This was a time that I think a team could really capitalize on SC being down and Oregon was set up to be that team last year and this year but without JM, I dont see us winning the Pac10 based on our schedule

Re: Masoli charged
DT is probably another year of experience away from contributing at the QB spot. This year was looked at as his chance to gain experience without having to lead right away. Now it may turn out he may have to start right away and put his feet into the fire.dthomas=ddixon wrote:Exactly. People who are pumped now cuz we get DT now are idiots.monster wrote:****

Re: Masoli charged
My guess is that Kelly will dismiss him from the team if it becomes evident that JM is guilty. I doubt we see JM play another down.Greenblood wrote:I don't know if the charge itself will lead to anything more than probation, etc.; we may have awhile to wait on that, unfortunately. The main "football" issue will be how Kelly evaluates Masoli in relation to all this. JM does have a redshirt year available, though who knows if that will even come into play . . .

I don't think people are pumped, I just think people are trying to make the best of the situation. Better than everyone saying that DT sucks.

Re: Masoli charged
I'm not pumped as I would much rather have Masoli, but between DT and NC I'd take DT. I wish DT would have a line as big as the one blocking for JM his first year though if he were to be the man.............dthomas=ddixon wrote:Exactly. Now, I'm not a fancy big city lawyer ...
but someone on Scout posted some interesting legal info. Second degree burglary seems to be unlawful entry with intent to commit a crime. Is Masoli an idiot? Sure, but not such an idiot that he was sending text messages about his plans to steal computers from the SAE house (I hope). Without something like that, intent is going to be a tough thing to prove. The Scout poster said this probably gets bargained down to Criminal Trespassing, a misdemeanor.
don't take my word, or whomever's word that is, for it. Just raising the possibility kissing JM goodbye might be premature. we'll see what the legal system does with it. like with LMJ (hopefully), he might end up with community service just yet.
