Stevens coaching style

Don't get me wrong I liked the physical defensive style I saw in the 64, but I am concerned with the pac 10. I could see our whole team fouling out with the refs we have. With the style of play I saw the pac 10 refs would go through the roof. They call heavy breathing and would faint at the contact in the final game. Does anyone else have this concern?

it's a style somewhat already in the pac10. look at the defense ucla plays.
Howland preaches defense first. Mike Montgomery has always been defense
oriented. so it may have to be toned down but still doable. look at the
adjustments in this tourney stevens had to make. he made alot of good calls.
even if we dont get him we need someone just like that i believe. hey as
long as we win.

I mean ucla plays that same physical style and they seem to do okay. well I mean they are the closest to butler style in the pac10 I think the refs would adjust after a few games hopefully

Remember wazzu last year with Weaver and company? I see that as a similar style to what we'd see if Stevens came to Oregon. Wazzu was pretty sick then, and I'd welcome that with open arms.

And honestly, the really physical teams usually get away with lots of fouls.. If anything, my concern with any coach would be 'is he too soft?' Physicality is always a plus side IMO, especially under a good coach who knows what he's doing.

Defensive minded coaches have had a lot of success recently in the PAC 10.

Washington State had a very similar style under Tony Bennet

Tim Floyd had a physical defense at USC

Ben Howland's teams always struggle offensively, but he somehow got them to the final 4 with their defense.

I think the 2 most under performing programs in the Pac 10 have been Oregon and Washington, both with offensive minded coaches.... who feature a wide open system...

teams that play good defense leads to good offense. butler ran when they
had the chance and so does duke. it's not the run down the quart 1 on 4
and shoot a contested 3 pointer and pray, or stand around and watch
a shooting guard who thinks he's a point guard dribble while the other
4 stand around and watch type of offense. just win. i dont care how.

like someone else it would be a different style then we are used to. But after watching the tourney I noticed that all four teams that made the final four they are known for their defense. That tells me defense wins in march. I don't care how I just want us to win

That is exactly what we need: a defensive minded coach. I knew we would never break through with Kent due to his teams relying too heavily on offense. Offense can vary game to game due to shooting while a good defense can dictate a game's pace. A good defense will always keep a team in a game, especially late in a season.

green yellow totally agree.. look at the final 4 teams. all of them are defense first. all 4 stress
great team defense. you win with defense. it's great if you score 100 points a game but you
can give up 101 per game...
