what I would like to see is Chip sit down and fully understand the academic qualifying standards that Oregon has. What is most frustrating to me is the time spent on guys that dont qualify but then you see them end up in other places. To me this seems like something that simply should not be an issue

NOw there's the Mops I know, usually got a solid head with some good spirit.
BUT, dude I agree Tajh told CK 2 or 3 times (varies by sources) he was a duck. That is just dirty to do that. Even if he had put a duck hat on today I still wouldn't have bet he'd be here until I knew we got that LOI. Kid is really wishy-washy. There is no way in hell he should have chose Clemson.

Maybe we will finish with a "bang", but I would call this recruiting class good but not great right now. Even recruiting experts have taken note of this class saying that they expected it to be better. With all of our success recently, we should be better than ranked 5th or 6th in the pac-10 this year in terms of recruiting. Our offense was one of the best in the country last year and we finished with 10 wins and ranked 10th, yet we don't have any qb's or rb's in this class and just one wr. I can understand if it's a result of the coaching changes, but then it's a must to do better next year.

How can we be assured though that these guys if are as good as claim they are that teams a lot closer to them will surely go after them. I am not familiar with enough of them to know where they are but if they are 4 and 5 star guys we know the big boys close to them going to be pushing hard to get them. I truly hope we land them but am skeptical with the distance even though fully support coaches going after them.

The las couple of years, it seems like as soon as we get some good news, we get two shots to the nads. Hopefully next year will be better for the Ducks regarding DTs, WRs, RBs, and QBs. Those are the main positions of need next year IMO.

King, it is VERY difficult to pull kids from USC because of the infrastructure they have from the moment they are born in that area. I lived it many, many years ago & you are treated like dirt if you go against the Southern California system. Coaches from all over the area donate their time, blood, sweat & tears cultivating kids in diapers almost in order to feed them into the So. California system. All we can do is prove our worth on the field by beating USC & eventually the recruiting will thaw. We'll get there.

Just my point of view on Boyd ~ I've mentioned this to a few guys, so forgive me if I'm repeating myself. When you have a kid that even remotely hesitates in moving to Oregon, even after they've seen the school. (Now this is my opinion).......we don't need them. We need guys, especially in key leadership positions, that absolutely WANT to be here. Would kill to get to come here. No hesitation. We want the guys that want to be part of something great & are not afraid of leaving Mom & Dad. So in my mind, because QB IS the leader of the team, we need him to be 110% engaged. I'm okay with losing Boyd & feel sorry for him at the same time because I don't think he did himself any favors for his ultimate future by choosing them. Just my opinion.

Well guys usually recruiting works 2 years ahead, meaning that if you have a stellar season you necessarily won't get an immediate great class from the group of seniors in that year. The reason being, b/c most blue chip seniors are blue chip juniors and that is really when the recruiting starts for those kids. So if they watch a 10 win, offensive juggernaut, like Oregon, as a junior, when the coaches come a calling they already are familiar with the program and might have interest. Basically we are in their top 10 list or top 5 list. We are seeing the effects of this with the juniors and the class of 2010. A year and a half of a coach or coaches in your ear is a lot better then 6 months. I think with our recent success we will see it translate to the 2010 class. That is when I think we will be on the map. I expect a big class next year, possibly top 10, with kids from all over the nation. I mean we already have 2 4* recruits and one is from florida. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised to see him bumped up to a 5* when it's all said and done. Now we have these 2 four star kids helping us with recruiting as well. They go to their all-star camps and tell the other guys there, that they like, to come to Oregon. It starts a domino affect and that is why teams like Florida, USC, Ohio St, LSU, ect. do well, they start getting their guys when they are juniors.

This class is a good class, it averages above 3* per guy. There is nothing wrong with that what so ever. You should be proud of the class that we recruited. Next year, we will, have a very high pre-season ranking, win the Pac-10, make the BCS, have a legit Hiesman candidate, and have a ton of hype on us that will carry over into the recruiting season. This isn't a 100 meter dash, it's a 5000k marathon. Enjoy the ride

All of that is true, but don't forget that the year before this, we were well on our way to the national championship game until Dixon went down. We seem to be having more of a problem with recruiting this season than last. Shouldn't that be reversed given the theory that it's the junior class interested in us?

This, I know. I'm from CA, I know the process. But there are still plenty of SoCal kids who go to UCLA, CAL, and ASU. Those are the guys we really have a shot at taking. It's USC territory...is what I meant.

If we can somehow win a PAC-10 title or win a BCS game, it would maybe open us up again in SoCal. Until we do this again, SC will rule that area, along with UCLA and ASU.

What is exciting about 2010 is the fact that we are already getting attention from a number of top guys and already have 2 commitments. Unlike this year we didn't come into the picture with a lot of these guys until later (or Pryor last year). I really think next year will be a huge recruiting class (most likely the best ever) because I think we will lock up a number of guys early (including a few over spring and summer and others early in the football season). I am of course upset we lost out on Boyd, most likely Brown and some others but the team is going to be good the next few years with the players we have, so I am over it and looking forward to an exciting future in Ducks football!!!!!

That is one of the most well thought out and written posts I've read on the situation. I definately couldn't have said it like that. The intangibles of WANTING to go somewhere eventualy fosters in better team unity and leadership.

Definitely. Just depends on the available kids & who fits The "O" build. I see up eventually making a dent, but perhaps we need to grab someone for recruiting that has great ties down below.
