Just remember, we got the top uncommitted prospect on our board: Cliff Harris. He's number 41, Boyd is 51. And he's at a position of a lot more need.

I just don't see why we have a 13 page thread and 6 other related threads when we DONT get Boyd, but we have one 5 page thread when we DO get Harris.

I agree. I think it's because of the whole "east coast" thing, the fact that it was a qb, what happened with Pryor last year, etc. The bottom line though is that we need a top cover corner more than a qb right now.

Completely agree, for once . I posted after we got Harris that after BB he was the most important kid to get.

Harris is more important but the reason there has been more talk about Boyd was that we sort of knew Harris was coming all along as long as he qualified. Boyd on the other hand has been like watching a soap opera

Sure, I hope he does but "update" doesn't mean much. Nobody usually has a chance to see their transcripts but coaches. Everyone else is usually speculating or taking the kid's word.

I hope you're right though. He will end up being one of the few "stars" of this class.

IT was never about the need of Boyd. Anybody with any sense knows we didn't need him. Boyd was one of those potential big time coup's that if we pulled it off it would have been great. At least tOSU didn't get him.

The way I look at is that it's a two-year window for getting an elite QB recruit, and that window is hanging wide open. If given the choice, I'd rather have that QB in '10 rather than '09. '09 is early, '10 is just right, and '11 would be pushing it. Now, you take a 5* QB when you can get him, obviously. But I won't be too disappointed about the Tajh thing unless we whiff on getting a big time QB next year. And had we got Tajh, that alone may have dropped the domino that led to us missing on the guy we may end up with next year. That guy may even be a better fit for us than Tajh was perceived to be. This all remains to be seen.

We didn't strike out with Tajh. We pulled one just inside the foul pole. We're still at the plate.

With our staff and facilities and program in general, we all as fans should rest assured that we'll be fine at the QB position for the foreseeable future. There's no question we've been invited to the party. That battle is over. We're in the collective consciousness of top athletes across the country. There are a lot more Tajh Boyds out there than there are Chip Kellys and Autzen Stadiums. Those are 5* recruits who aren't going anywhere. We ought to keep that in mind.

Great post man. This is the right perspective. It's not fun to lose him, but it's not like we're in any trouble at QB (yet)

It does stink when you realize USC had 3 5 * QBs on hand at the same time... Yet other guy's don't have enough maturity or confidence in themselves to try competing for PT at a school like Oregon.

Part of the problem is salemanship, and unfortunately, the 'product' at Oregon doesn't 'sell itself', yet.

Part of the job of a good salesman, is overcoming 'objections', whether they be real, like location, or imagined, like a perceived lack of ballance in the offense, or the inability of the D to stop third and long.

As a new coach, CK will need to walk a tight rope, creating a dynamic, balanced staff that combines great chemistry and teaching skills with the salesmanship to bring in the talent that allows that staff to put an even more productive and exciting product on the field.

Its the classic car wreck scenario. Harris is the cop car sitting there clocking people, we take a glance and keep on going. Boyd is the 3 car pile up everyone slows down and rubbernecks over.

Harris will make a difference earlier than Boyd ever would. I think we dodged a bullet, we don't know how badly his knee is hurt or if it can be 100% repaired. Nate Costa anyone???

Fear of injury was probably one of the tools used to sell Tajh against coming to Oregon.
