The way I look at is that it's a two-year window for getting an elite QB recruit, and that window is hanging wide open. If given the choice, I'd rather have that QB in '10 rather than '09. '09 is early, '10 is just right, and '11 would be pushing it. Now, you take a 5* QB when you can get him, obviously. But I won't be too disappointed about the Tajh thing unless we whiff on getting a big time QB next year. And had we got Tajh, that alone may have dropped the domino that led to us missing on the guy we may end up with next year. That guy may even be a better fit for us than Tajh was perceived to be. This all remains to be seen.

We didn't strike out with Tajh. We pulled one just inside the foul pole. We're still at the plate.

With our staff and facilities and program in general, we all as fans should rest assured that we'll be fine at the QB position for the foreseeable future. There's no question we've been invited to the party. That battle is over. We're in the collective consciousness of top athletes across the country. There are a lot more Tajh Boyds out there than there are Chip Kellys and Autzen Stadiums. Those are 5* recruits who aren't going anywhere. We ought to keep that in mind.

I thought that was funny that they alwasys talked about Korn being hurt they brought in a 4* dual threat guy last year too...did they just forget to mention him?

I probably can't add a whole lot here, but I do like the attitude behind the title of this thread . . .

At least he didn't commit to tOSU, as it sounds like their fans would have just loved to think how they got "Oregon's QB" for the second straight year. Maybe a little humility for them.

I strongly agree with those who believe we need to keep doing the nationwide recruiting. How many programs can say they were in the conversation for the nation's top recruit for two straight years now (and BB is yet to be decided)? The very fact that we already have (one or two?) commits from FL for 2010 should say enough on that. If Chip can take the Ducks to just a slightly higher level, I have no doubt that we'll stop being bridesmaids.

Also, the reality is that each year's recruiting is kind of its own animal, only somewhat connected to actual performance on the field. It's fun, but it's Ws we're ultimately after. It's easy to forget what one already has, even the products of last year's recruiting. Chris Harper keeps coming to mind. No, maybe he's not the Duck QB of the future (I think Masoli's doing OK . . . ), but if it's a desire for a lot of offense that makes us pant after an athlete like Tajh Boyd, in Harper we have a guy, once CK can find creative ways of getting him the ball with a QB he can keep healthy for a few weeks, who might make us forget about a lot of these recruits we miss out on.

If we can pull Gaines, I'd be happy with this class. We all know we just wanted the clout that came with getting Boyd, he really wasn't a necessity.

If by a miracle we can pull Bryce Brown, which is a necessity, the Ducks will threaten big time next year. We'll have a shot at the BCS anyways, but with Brown, it's just another threat to take us to the NC game.

I agree, we have tons of talent on O, and need to get them involved.

C.Harper, J.Holland, E.Dickson, L.Blount, L.James, M.Lewis (remember this guy?), also Dion Jordan (6'7" with 4.6 speed!)

Offense should be in good hands as long as Masoli keeps progressing as a passer.

Defense will need help at safety and D-line, but I like the talent we have there. Losing A.Leon hurt because he could have really added a Difference Making PRESENCE, but we'll survive.

Why do people melt down about a 4 star recruit when we are solid at the position for the next 4 years?

i think the major reason was we were all hearing boyd to oregon for a long time, and then clemson comes in the back door and steals him away. harris is a great get, but we kinda knew he was all oregon if he has the grades. (but we still dont know how this plays out) If harris goes the JC route we will only have one 4star recruit based off rivals in this class. We've missed on two aa mvp qb's in two years and they are both major losses imo. We've had a rash of injuries the last couple years and i will take all of the depth we can, plus boyd is a way better passer than pryor. And the knee injury isnt that bad, they said minor surgery on one of the articles so it cant be compared to Costa. Costa blew out the same knee three times in four years or something and two at least were non contact.
