Altman pursuing another guard?
Brady Heslip, a 6'1 Combo guard out of New Hampton Prep in New Hampshire. Team Canada teammate Texas commit, Corey Joseph.
http://blogs.sltrib.com/usu/index.php
Released from his NLOI at Boston College after greyshirting this season.
According to Heslip, the 6-foot-1 point guard, those two schools are Oregon and San Diego.
San Diego has officially offered, Heslip told Aggieville. Oregon hasn't, but the two sides are in discussions. While no visits have been set up as of yet, Heslip is listening to all sides.

http://www.highschoolhoop.com/recruitin ... mpionship/
"Joseph, who matched his previous tournament high of 33 points, along 6 rebounds and 6 assists, was outstanding, as the game came down to a failed buzzer beating three-point attempt for the win. Giving him a helping hand were Brady Heslip, who had an impressive three-point shooting performance putting up 25 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists including a tournament-high 6 threes."
Interesting idea...

I really don't think this kid is Pac10 material
His athleticism is very underwhelming......
I cant see him being any better than Sims.
At best he might be a spot up shooter

Re: Altman pursuing another guard?
Nice highlights of his free throw shooting.
He's obviously a very bright kid, having had offers out of high school from Brown, Rice, and Georgetown. He looks like a borderline BCS player, due to his below average athleticism, but I am judging this based off of a few highlight videos on youtube. Could be an upgrade over Sim, but that isn't saying much. I would only offer him a scholarship if Altman decides to cut ties with Sim. Heslip would probably be better off going to Utah St or USD.

I'm going to agree with Boom here, at least based on the highlights. This is the pac-10, and I would hope Oregon can do better.

Also, I don't think Oregon needs another point guard in this class after getting Loyd. Let's just get Polee now and call it a class.

we need to save some scollys for next year's potentially deep class.

2012 is also shaping up to be a banner year for recruits. We could possibly have 6 open scholarships open for the 2012 season if Crittle does stay. There could be more if Altman uses a currently open scholarship on a JC transfer.Boom wrote:agreedduckgrad99 wrote:Also, I don't think Oregon needs another point guard in this class after getting Loyd. Yeah, I'd like to go over that JC big man Nored instead. Plus, like boom mentioned, this guy is not pac-10 material..Boom wrote:agreedduckgrad99 wrote:Also, I don't think Oregon needs another point guard in this class after getting Loyd. Let's just get Polee now and call it a class.

Re: Altman pursuing another guard?
Heslip had offers from BC, Georgetown, Miami, Boise State, Gonzaga, Utah State, and Cincinnati.
Last time I checked BC was a regular in the NCAAs. Georgetown is always a top 25 team now. Gonzaga has 10+ straight years of NCAA appearances while being ranked every year. Utah State is an up and coming mid-major program. Cincy still is relevant in the college landscape.
There is one school that Oregon is better than on paper in clear fashion. Boise State.
The rest are either better or have had better years the past few years. Why is he good enough to play there but not Oregon who hasn't made the NCAAs in 2 years and won only 8 games just two seasons ago?

Re: Altman pursuing another guard?
I think we go with the Nared since he's a big guy that has 3-point range. He has size to play in the post but can move outside if need be. Right now this team needs a 3-point shooter so Nared would be preferable at that spot, but Heslip could fit there if nothing else comes through. We are only going to have 3 scholarships open (not counting Crittle as gone yet) so it does limit who we can take. Altman has filled one with Loyd and I hope he finishes by getting Polee with Nared as a possible bonus. I would prefer only taking 2 this year and have the ability to get 3 next year in a deep class.UOducksTK1 wrote:Yeah, I'd like to go over that JC big man Nored instead. Ok, but :
1. We already have a point guard in this class with Loyd.
2. We might get Polee, and I think we need to spread out the classes.
3. I believe Oregon is in consideration for some top rated guards in the 2011 class.

Re: Altman pursuing another guard?
The 2011 class has some really talented guards that would help Oregon immediately. Nick Johnson, Josiah Turner, and Jabari Brown are some of the guards that Mops has mentioned as being interested in Oregon. Plus they play with Kyle Wiltjer on the same AAU team. They have expressed an interest in playing with Wiltjer. There are also some talented posts that are interested in Oregon so Altman may decide to leave some room or may have some due to player transfers.duckgrad99 wrote: 3. 1. Loyd is a point guard. Heslip is a combo guard who plays both spots with his 6'2-6'3 size.duckgrad99 wrote:Lord_Vader wrote:Heslip had offers from BC, Georgetown, Miami, Boise State, Gonzaga, Utah State, and Cincinnati.

2. Polee and Loyd would give us only 2 spots. Three isn't a log jam at all. Oregon will have a mass exodus in two years when Armstead, Dunigan, Jacob, Williams, and Sim leave. Three of those players accounted for I bet 50% of last years stats and I am prolly being generous. Williams will most likely play a key role on this squad the next two years so that number will go up even more. We saw when Malik, Taylor, and ML left the team had little to no experience. If we can have anywhere from 4-6 players with two or more years under their belts the 2012 class won't be relied upon as often.
3. Oregon is yes but would you be willing to risk missing out on a solid prospect who can help this season and be successful right away for a CHANCE at signing a higher ranked guard who might not even come to Oregon?

Re: Altman pursuing another guard?
1. Heslip is 6'1-6'2, depending on who you believe. He is a shooting guard in a point guard's body. Heslip would have a lot of trouble on the defensive end in the Pac 10 (much like Drew Wiley). In terms of athleticism, he is not a BCS/Pac 10 caliber player. The bigger issue is that his skill set is comparable to Sim's. Why have two players who are almost identical, particularly, when neither one adds much to the team.Lord_Vader wrote:1. Loyd is a point guard. 2. Teondre Williams should be starting. Tyrone Nared may also be a borderline BCS player, but at least he provides a different skillset. He is tall and has a long wingspan and can hit from the perimeter. More importantly, he would have some value on the defensive end.
3. There is an abundance of players like Heslip available most years. Bringing in Heslip when the team already has Sim would seem to be a poor use of a valuable scholarship.

Re: Altman pursuing another guard?
Who should Williams start over? Not over Longmire.
With Altman it sounds like he likes to go 9-10 deep so we need all the quality depth we can get, but I don't really care if we sign this kid, he doesn't sound any better then Sim.
