Re: SI.com - The Rise and Fall of Jeremiah Masoli
Interesting story.
My personal opinion is that seems to be exactly what anyone trying to move past mistakes would sound like. Maybe he didn't steal anything, but again, he didn't do anything to distance himself, and he lied about it. He stated earlier about the charge in California, "I should have been a leader". He had another opportunity to, and chose the wrong path again and again.
Good luck to him, as I don't hold grudges, but I feel we need to take the same point of view as Kelly and the team. We are replacing a graduating QB, and move on.

Even if all Masoli was guilty of is being in the wrong place at the right time, lying about the fact is what got him in trouble... Telling the truth from the outset, or even confronting Embry, would have completely changed everything from that point on.
"Fool me once, shame on you... fool me twice? Shame on me."
Masoli should have known better.

Lying to the cops, as well as his coach is stupid, but failing to admit it, given multiple opportunities, just compounds the issue.

That's basically what did him in with the coaches and finally the fans. It's almost too bad that Masoli didn't just tell what had happened and let the court decide instead of lying and then pleading guilty to something he didn't seem to do.woundedknees wrote:Lying to the cops, as well as his coach is stupid, but failing to admit it, given multiple opportunities, just compounds the issue.

The Palmer and Ferras quotes are interesting to say the least. Where was this information earlier?

Whats one of the most important lessons we heard as kids? Whats one of the most important lessons we parents try to teach our kids? Tell the truth from the start. Lying only makes things worse. Lying will get you nowhere, fast.
Too bad JM couldnt find the strength to do the right thing the first time around.
Great article, it really puts the human element into the situation, hearing about his family agonizing over the decision to plead guilty to burglary was very intriguing IMO..

Lying to the cops was stupid, but it's not burglary. And while I don't feel sorry for Masoli, it is disappointing that things should go down that way for him. He probably handled that situation in the worst way possible, which is a real shame for him. If he gets a chance to take a few snaps for 'Ole Miss, I'll certainly root for him.

Lying to the police basically made Masoli an accessory.

Re: SI.com - The Rise and Fall of Jeremiah Masoli
You know more about how that is determined than I do, but from my limited understanding Masoli might have been considered an accessory because he failed to report what he saw, rather than because he participated/encouraged the burglary. It might be considered the same in the law books, but I tend to slightly differentiate those who handle affairs badly from those who set out to burgle. Not saying I feel sorry for him -- it's just a shame that he should cause himself so much trouble for what might have been nothing much. Then again, I've never worked in law enforcement.woundedknees wrote:Lying to the police basically made Masoli an accessory.

He could easily have stopped his career at Oregon from going down the tubes if he had just told the truth or even acted when he thought Embry might be up to no good.monster wrote:You know more about how that is determined than I do, but from my limited understanding Masoli might have been considered an accessory because he failed to report what he saw, rather than because he participated/encouraged the burglary. "Masoli and the driver independently recall that Masoli got out of the vehicle last, and with hesitation, before the victim gave up his wallet, which according to redacted juvenile records reviewed by SI.com, contained $10 cash and a Jamba Juice card."
