getting key players

I am not new to this forum but I don't post very often. Having said that I am observing comments on here every day. Here is what I think people are forgetting...

1. We are getting key players for positions of need. Going into the recruiting season we were needing to address three major positions; CB, WR, and DT. At CB we have done very well. At DT we seemed to have stopped the bleeding, and at WR we have a chance to finish strong. If Jackson and Gaines come to Oregon we will have 3 very talented WR in this class.

2. People are also forgetting that Oregon still isn't a consistent top 10 program. We are still going to lose recruits to schools because of location, ala Tahj Boyd. A few more years in the top 10 and we will start to find kids willing to leave mommy and daddy for the O. It isn't that Kelly can't close, it's that Kelly is up against really tough odds. Ten years ago it would have been unthinkable to have 5 star recruits from the east coast considering us. So lets be positive about our program's progress. In a few more years this could change, but for now we should be content finishing recruiting seasons in the top 25 and occasionally in the top 10. By the way, were going to finish this recruiting season from 25-35. Not great, but we should fill the most important needs of our team.

3. The last thing I would say is that people should keep in mind that we have never signed three linebackers of this quality in one class. I know that defense isn't as sexy as offense, but to me, the linebackers coming in are very important to the future success of the program. Even as important as Tahj Boyd. Boyd may not have even played until his senior year. People forget about how valuable Darron Thomas is going to be. Watching Darron's throwing motion is really a thing of beauty.

Sorry to make my first topic so long. I think we are all getting a little greedy and were forgetting that we will be bringing in some talented kids with this class. Its not top 10 worthy, but when your not in the top 10 every year you won't sign top 10 talent every year. But were headed in the right direction. Heads up ducks.

Too many times we all look past the positive and look at what we percieve to be the negative aspects of all of this.
Everyone needs to just relax...Think about the glass half full that we have, soon to be filling up, as time passes, and our successes increase. No need for the glass half empty mentality...Its not healthy or productive, and just tends to bring everyone down to a level that we dont want to return to...Those days are in the past...We are looking towards the future and it is looking very bright, very bright indeed....

Agree and just wait till next year. I know people say that every year. But, man, next year is going to be huge. oregon has never had this much buzz for key players so early. All Star kids saying that their dream school is Oregon! and these guys are from the east coast. Wow.

Thread are the type of threads I like to read...very well done!

We all could moan and groan about what should have been but that solves nothing and as you point out we have actual fared pretty well not to mention other programs in the PAC10 are having similar difficulties (except the Trees...go figure). I can wait until we are a consistent 10 ten program but we ain't there yet...again great thread, we need more of these because its a long off-season!

People want stars, that's all that a lot of people look at. Obviously I like stars too & they definitely make a class look better but the reality is, a class can be full of 5*s & the top in the nation but unless they contribute on the field then it's not a good class. I'd rather have a class full of 2*s that has success on the field than a class like Notre Lame's that doesn't even get them to a bowl game.

You made some excellent points and then you say this? I know it was a long time ago, but just last year Oregon signed a better group of LB's than we have right now. Josh Kaddu, Kiko Alonso, Tyrell Irvin and Dewitt Stuckey are just as good if not better than Bolo, Clay and Littlejohn. But otherwise you made some solid points.

After the two classes of LB's finish there carrers at Oregon we can then see which class of LB's was better! The last few years Oregon has done an excellent job recruiting that position!! GOOOOOOO DUCKS

You made some excellent points and then you say this? I know it was a long time ago, but just last year Oregon signed a better group of LB's than we have right now. Valid point but it does show the quality of the LBs coming in in both classes! Man our LB corp look good...and it will help our ST a ton as well!

OK, enuff of this..We moved the CW to the 4th of December...Can we move the Spring Game up to....lets say....

I am already pumped for the Spring Game, of course, I always am...But, damn, this winter is seeming so long.
And its only been a month since I was in warmer San Diego watchin our beloved team show the country that "No School from Oklahoma" is gonna kick us up one side of the field and back...NOOOOOO, we are gonna do it to them....

It was just an opinion. Plus, what have those four backers done that makes them so special? They are all potential at this point, just like the three guys coming in. All I am saying is we have never scored 3 four star linebackers in one class. Kaddu and Alonso are 3 star guys and I am excited to see Stuckey, he could be very good. Criticize it if you don't agree, but were both going on what we feel their potential could be. There just opinions.

I completely agree Akili (love your name by the way!!). Our defense was the desperate need and you are correct about Darron. I've said before on this board that I get a chill when he throws, but the best part is his composure when throwing that ball. Even with a defender in his face, no problem. i.e. Civil War.

We're looking pretty sweet for next year & our 2010 recruit list is shaping up to be quite impressive.

Thanks for the compliment on the name. Akili was my favorite duck of all time. Does anyone remember the game where akili threw a pic to a LB, and in the same play ripped the ball out of the LB's hands. That was the point where Akili became my favorite duck of all time.
