There is a tweet from mops saying there is a rumor that dunigan could leave oregon for overseas pro team. I hope not then we have no size.

Re: Dunigan gone?
That would really suck. To be honest, there has always seemed to be an issue with Dunigan. Why can't these guys just stay commited to a program for 3 or 4 years?

Christ. I don't mean to be a doomsayer, but this program's probly in the tank for a couple of years at the very least, and very possibly more like half a decade before we're back to success.

You know, maybe it is better in a lot of cases to get a 2 or 3 star recruit than a 4 or 5. It seems that a lot of these "high profile" recruits think they are bigger than the world, end up leaving early and we never see their full potential. Very disappointing.

you act like this has happened to us all the time......duckgrad99 wrote:You know, maybe it is better in a lot of cases to get a 2 or 3 star recruit than a 4 or 5. If Kent was the still the coach.... the players would have stayed.... and Oregon basketball would have been competitive for at least the next 2 years.

Players left under Kent, and players didn't play to their full potential under him. And Dunigan leaving to make money could easily have nothing to do with the coach. I would rather suck as a team with a good coach in Altman than a poor coach in Kent.

Re: Dunigan gone?
Maybe a couple of the players that were rumored to be transferring in with 1 year to play can replace Dunnigan. It's almost too bad that he never lived up to his potential and didn't try to at least stick it out with Altman. I wonder if cancelling the trip to Italy also made his decision easier to leave. Him leaving also sorts out the starting lineup a little more now since him and Jacob played the same positions, although they could have played at the same time at PF and C.

Like every program... players transfer away. To my knowledge we never had a high profile recruit transfer away under Kent.... only the 2 & 3 star guys who couldn't cut it.duckgrad99 wrote:Boom wrote:you act like this has happened to us all the time......duckgrad99 wrote:You know, maybe it is better in a lot of cases to get a 2 or 3 star recruit than a 4 or 5. Your kidding yourself if you don't think Dunigan leaving the team has everything to do with the new coach and the roster turnover.

Re: Dunigan gone?
But after possibly 2 good years, we would be back to square one with a whole new big freshman class. I think the athletic department wanted a clean start for the program as they enter the new arena. They probably knew that players would transfer out due to Kent leaving but are probably thinking more long-term than just short-term. Short-term the prospects of this team look bad, but long-term, the foundation of the program can hopefully be built up by Altman so that there is no boom or bust type trajectory for the team. Altman will more than likely have 6 scholarships to offer next season and then 4 after that, so he can rebuild the program into his liking in a short order.Boom wrote:Like every program... players transfer away. If Altman doesn't pulls in some major talent in these next 2 basketball classes......... then Oregon basketball will become irrelevant and fans wont be showing up to our new arena.....greenyellow wrote: But after possibly 2 good years, we would be back to square one with a whole new big freshman class. It would have been a lot easier to rebuild after a couple of winning seasons in the new arena... and with a likely better coaching hire.

Re: Dunigan gone?
Mike is one of the few guys on the basketball team that I actually know. I'm still not convinced that this is true. Mike and his mother were adamant about him obtaining a college degree. Mike was on pace to graduate at the end of this year. I'm going to try to get in contact with him because I'm having a hard time believing an Israeli newspaper.
“If everybody in this room just want to be real with themselves, this game could have went either way,” he said. “We turned the ball over a lot. We beat ourself. Just be real with yourself right now. We beat ourself.”

Re: Dunigan gone?
I had always read that one of the reasons Dunigan came to Oregon was our term system and that he and his Mom saw in it, the opportunity to graduate in three years. This is really disappointing.
EK and a bunch of his recruits are gone. Whether or not we should have let him go is a moot point. We have a new coach and a new arena. I can only hope that the new staff can bring in their players and make Oregon Basketball in Matt Court fun to watch. As an alum, fan, and donor with a great seat in the new arena, I've got to get behind our program 100%.
