The loss of Justin Thompson keeps hurting more and more....

Lets see. It's because of a coaching change, and the kid isn't quite BCS level. Gotta be Aaron Pflugrad.

If Celotto wants to be a police officer, he had best get his free batchelor degree first. My gut tells me that he was just giving excuses to cover for why he realy is leaving.

I saw him listed at 250 but thought that had to be a little old and, therefore, a little low. Anyway, it's a little early to be calling this a state of emergency but things look really thin at DT. Iupati is a highly acclaimed DT (ranked #2), so hopefully he comes into fall camp making waves, a la Tukuafu. With Celotto I thought the unit was going to hold it's own. He was one of the worst people to lose.

Dang I met Cellotto's parents and grandparents at a game last year, I think Boise State. A very nice family, and I thought that Tonio was going to have a breakout year in '09. I hope that he made a good decision for himself, but it sure hurts the Ducks line depth.

Those weight listings are from the beginning of last season, so yeah, he is likely at a different weight now. I have no idea what weight he is currently at though.

I really hate to bring this up but will Justin Thompson try to gain admission again? Do we know the latest on him?

Naw, you have to be kidding But in a serious note, 2 coaches were canned so far and only 1 student athlete has left... Really, it is not all that bad. It is ironic at times to see us fans talk about the connections of players and their position coaches while we are recruiting them, however if the coaches are given the boot during these kids college careers no-one ever mentions if there is going to be any student misgivings....

IE... I know there is a conversation with the basketball scenerio atm. I think it is always easier for kids to accept their mentors deciding to go somewhere to benefit themselves, however when they are "let go" the fact that we might have seen the first one/last one (on the football side) shows that the coaches are doing a lot to stop the potential bleeding.

I can understand him being over football. My buddy I went to HS with played Oline at ASU and after dozen of so surgeries and even more injuries in that 4 yr time he hasn't so much as even watched football since he graduated. Guys that play on the lines get beat up and have injuries that they have to play with all year, so guys just to want to deal with that any more. Best of luck to him.

Oh and cops don't need a degree, though when you start out you would make more money.

Reading a little bit into it, his dad played in the NFL and Tonio had the best shot of any of his sons to play in the NFL. And upon hearing the news his dad wasn't too happy. To me it sounds like maybe his dad wanted his son to play football more than he did, and Tonio finally got too fed up with it and decided to follow his dream. But again, this is just speculation.

I hate to see him go, but if he doesn't want to play anymore it's probably best that we find out now and not in August. Best of luck to him in the future!

Police/Sheriff's deputies usually don't require a degree to get hired, as long as they meet basic requirements and are able to pass the rigorous physical and mental tests, plus extensive background checks (I became a deputy at 48, but I was in excellent physical condition at the time. With a screen name like 'woundedknees', that has definitely changed over the last few years.)

The thing that is significant is that even an associate degree automatically upgrades initial pay/ranking, and greatly eases the transition up the promotion scale. (In Lane County, for instance, there was a 3$/hour differential between entering as a DS-1, compared to a DS-2. Without a degree, it takes at least a couple of extra years to move up to the next higher grade.)

Not sure what Tonio's real reasons were, but I wish him well. If he is indeed trying to become a law officer, It can either be the most satisfying, or the roughest profession around. It definitely isn't easy, either way.
