Re: So now that this class is in the books...
I had hoped we would get some of these guys that were really excited about Oregon and their offer but as has been the case the last few years talk is cheap. End of the day they go elsewhere. 2018 could be an interesting year. Taggart will have a full year in the position. Some things to watch for. Oregon has to show improvement on the field. They have to win games. They need to improve on defense. That should be easy considering how bad they were. Oregon has to stay out of the news negatively. 2 coaches in a month making bad decisions are not good and will further damage the program if it continues to happen. The coaches need to work really hard developing relationships with coaches and players for 2018. If Oregon does all of that then 2018 could be a very good year recruiting. Helfrich has really damaged the program. Not sure how bad it really is but he hurt it really bad.

With as little time as Coach T and staff had to work with, given the damage done by Helf, I think this was as good an outcome as we could expect -- likely better (with the exception of a few dream prospects, and Falo) going elsewhere. The next recruiting class should be very interesting to see.

This is how I feel. Artis/Falo are the two I wish we could have pulled in that we had a really solid chance at, but to even be in the convo for Artis that late in the game is credit to our staff.judgeduck wrote:With as little time as Coach T and staff had to work with, given the damage done by Helf, I think this was as good an outcome as we could expect -- likely better (with the exception of a few dream prospects, and Falo) going elsewhere. We were clearly close with Falo but I imagine Reaves DUII didn't help us much there. I'm not as worried about the edge rusher on this. I think Moi, Hollins, etc. will easily fill that gap and didn't think a frosh would be a huge difference maker in 2017. This will likely hurt us in 2018 but let's hope that changes.
TE depth is a major concern. We have 2 legit TE's, we'll be converting Mattingly and will likely have to move someone else to TE for shear depth. However, if WT doesn't play double tights much than this isn't really as big of an issue.

Any idea if there really are open spots left?

I like everybody's grade of B-B+. When we hired Taggart, I expected our class to finish between 18-22. I was so anti-Helf that I believed there were kids who wanted to come to Oregon but he was scaring off. How true that really is can't really be known. After Taggart hired such a great staff, I kind of hoped he'd prove himself to be a miracle worker and we'd wind up in the top 15. Don't know how close we actually were on some of the names that could have got us there, but still we got a pretty deep class, and I'm happy enough. I think we got some solid guys on defense. Not quite elite at any position group, but close in the db spot, really solid linebackers, and some d-lineman that could really blossom. Would have liked an edge pass rusher.
Offense, love Verdell. Love Moore. Love Redd. But not a great offensive recruiting year for us.

Good class, but missing at TE isn't really acceptable. There were plenty of guys, including Moses Robinson who was committed.
Falo should have been the second TE, not the only option.
If they get a TE, even a low three star, I give the class an A-
Without TE, an essential need, I think we drop to B-
It's a fundamental issue.
Not worried about Artis, Falaniko or Thompson FWIW

In the local and national media this class is getting a ton of praise.

Maybe this makes the Jalen Hurd transfer seem a bit more attractive as a stop gap.Duckenstein wrote:I mostly agree.srsmiley007 wrote:This +1.UOducksTK1 wrote:This is how I feel. Problem with Hurd is he's not a graduate transfer so he'd have to sit out next season, which does nothing to help the depth issues.

Out of the 55 or so days the new Sheriff was on the job, I believe only 17-18 were actually "open" days and during some of that time he didn't have all his staff in place. Couple that with the idiotic TE coach stepping on his dick, I think this is an really good class considering. Probably didn't help not having a TE coach too. Scale of 1-10 I'd give this class a 7.5

Any weird and random loophole we can use to get him to play right away? How did Blake Barnett get cleared to play right away?greenyellow wrote:Problem with Hurd is he's not a graduate transfer so he'd have to sit out next season, which does nothing to help the depth issues.

Mark my words, Falo is going to tear up the league in a couple years.Duckenstein wrote:I mostly agree.srsmiley007 wrote:This +1.UOducksTK1 wrote:This is how I feel. Eh. I think he only ran a 5.0 at 215 lbs. I would have loved him but I think the FL TE we lost was better.nogerO wrote:Mark my words, Falo is going to tear up the league in a couple years.Duckenstein wrote:I mostly agree.srsmiley007 wrote:This +1.UOducksTK1 wrote:This is how I feel.
