Recruiting is one thing you'd be an idiot not to trust the coaches on.

And I talked to mops last night, and it sounds like we'll go after a QB for the next class.
I'm glad that Bennett's a good QB in the coaches' eyes but the security of a 2nd QB in this class would be great, especially since it would give them time under CK to learn the option-spread offense we run and getting them into the swing of throwing AND running. Besides, I just liked the idea of a QB in Oregon colors with the name Munchie...damn, oh well...
We will still have 5 QBs next year. Masoli, Costa, Thomas, Hawkins, and Bennett. I'm fine with that.
But for 2011, we definitely need to land a QB or two, because Masoli and Costa will be gone.
Yep we need to get 2 qb from class of 2011 ^^

My guess is that they would have taken 2 QBs if we had more scholarships available. But we don't. We can't put our eggs all in one basket. We need help in a lot of other areas, too. And we have some great opportunities in other areas. Trust the coaches on this one.

i thought lemming just ranked munchie the number three dual threat qb, would love to get another guy from the south this might hurt us down there pulling his schollie. The one plus is that we did it before his visit which is nice of the coaches but not sure about this one. So he'll be going to Tennessee it looks like now?

I'm guessing it's not just that they are sold on Bennett, maybe they have someone in 2011 as a high priority, maybe it's just the way they see all the scholarships falling into place for this class, could mean they want to take on an extra DB or something.

Amen. Curious, though, since we had some transfers inbetween LOI day 2009 and now, how did that affect our schollie count? If it was simply numbers of schollies, pulling one from a good QB prospect doesn't seem to add up.

pulling a schollie from a "good QB prospect" makes great since if:
Bennett is looking very good AND
Next yrs QB prospects are great (they are) and your staff feels you can get 2 next yr that you rate higher than Munchie.
(not to mention the fact that Hawkins is possibly looking better than expected).
I view this as GREAT news !!

Seems like whenever we have more than 1 QB in a class one of them ends up transferring away anyways. So why waste all of that time and resources?
Jonny DuRocker, Justin Roper, Cody Kempt, and Chris Harper

My guess, like some other's have already said is Bennett is looking really good, we have needs elsewhere, for next year we have good QB depth and next year's QB class is better than this year's so we can probably get somebody better next year. Our recruiting gets better and better every year so I trust what the coaches are doing.

Could mean that they have a lot of confidence in Hawkins as well.

Go watch the video in the Bennett link and then you will understand why Oregon stopped recruiting Munchie.
