Bad news on Munchie

Post by UOducksTK1 »

Got this from one of our members. Thanks to Nate getting the info.

From one of Nate's sources:
Munchie is not visiting now because the coaches called and said we are only taking Bennett for this class. Too bad because he was all Oregon and was excited to visit.

Interesting, and definitely a bummer for Munchie.

That sucks. Munchie seemed like he was all set to commit to Oregon. This just means Oregon will have to take a QB next year since there will only be 3 QBs on the roster after next season (Thomas, Hawkins, and Bennett). It must be that they want to break up the QBs a bit in there eligibility since you really can only play 1 QB at a time. Having 2 QBs in one class usually means 1 will transfer.

Any particular reason why just Bennett? Munchie's ratings went down but that can't be the only factor in the decision to pull the offer. Is this a confirmed story or just speculation and rumor? I can't see UO not taking 2 QBs, especially with someone who is high on UO.

That's ridiculous. Maybe I could understand if Bennett was a 5 star qb and the ducks were stacked at that position, but they aren't. There must be something else going on here.

Not going to lose any sleep. I think Bennett will pan out better than Munchie anyway.

this is one reason why you need to commit soon after being offerred unless you are a 5 star. teams will not wait forever and get strung out on signing day.

Maybe Kelly thinks Bennett IS a 5 star player. The kid's looking pretty good

Exactly. Bennett is killing it right now, so that may have pushed Kelly's decision. Bennett was rated by some source recently (can't remember who) as the 3rd best dual threat QB in this class.

I have only heard good things about Bennett, but really only one QB in this class? Just hope that, if this is true, that it all pans out! Over the last couple of years we ran through our QB's so quickly!

I was excited about Munchie, but at the same time, maybe that says something about the way Hawkins is progressing as well that they only plan to take 1 QB. He may have sold them on his potential at QB in the future.

From what I've heard, coaches are pretty high on Bennett.

And I talked to mops last night, and it sounds like we'll go after a QB for the next class.

I'm glad that Bennett's a good QB in the coaches' eyes but the security of a 2nd QB in this class would be great, especially since it would give them time under CK to learn the option-spread offense we run and getting them into the swing of throwing AND running. Besides, I just liked the idea of a QB in Oregon colors with the name Munchie...damn, oh well...

It's always good to have more depth, despite what the coaches might think about Bennett. They were also high on Cody Kempt, and we see what happened with him.

We will still have 5 QBs next year. Masoli, Costa, Thomas, Hawkins, and Bennett. I'm fine with that.

But for 2011, we definitely need to land a QB or two, because Masoli and Costa will be gone.
