Very true but personally I get annoyed when people make uneducated guesses on talent when they have never seen an individual play and most of the disappointment is based solely on star power! Its just annoying and the fact the every other thread is worrying or this guy or that guy doesn't like us anymore...blah blah!

Rant over...ha ha! I know we can't all be objective or optimistic but you can always hope (and judge)!

You do make a point here and there is some truth in that. But if this would have been around with P Chung commited..people were probably thinking o we got this fall back guy. he will be good on the bench.

Little did they know that he would end up going to NFL and be one of the anchors of our Defensive for 3 years.

When we hardly know anything about these recruits and we judge them prematurely by their offers and their "stats", but we often jump the gun and get the completely wrong impression on these kids.

You do make a good point how we all put guys down who dont sign with us...like the Phillip kid who signed with OSU the other day, on all duck boards people were saying we didn't need him, but if he committed to us then we would be saying he will be the next great OT at Oregon.

Just a small correction... Chung started for the better part of his 4 years.

This guy didn't make me jump out of my chair and scream like I did when Chip was announced as head coach in waiting. However, you gotta like the dark horse recruit and I hope we have one in every class. There is no reason to believe that this kid can't be great. The more I hear about him though, the more I understand why he was offered. Remember, this kid was offered by Boise State and was going to visit Cal. From the article, I glean nothing else other than that he fell in love with Oregon and didn't need to trip to Cal. Boise State has an eye for kids that fall through cracks to be great D-1 players.

duck grad: Just to play devils advocate here a bit.

I remember being super excited for a 5* WR a few years back, who was fast, tall, athletic, the best WR on the west coast, held a news conference and chose us! Man he sure didn't pan out the way I thought he would of at all. In fact an argument could be made, basing it on what he did here at the university of oregon he should of never been more then a 2* player out of HS.

You just never know.

Colvin was deserving of being at least a 3*. He was on his way to a very solid senior season before he got hurt. But it's still a valid point. Offer lists are more indicative than stars of a player's potential.

Coming on a message baord and slamming a new recruit is classless..... I Do SEE something wrong with coming here and expressing an opinion of a kid you know zero about. You did the same thing with Jackson earlier. He may not be at the top of the coaches board but he was high enough to get an offer two weeks before LOI day. All indications are that he will grey shirt, which means he'll be in the same class as the 2010 recruits. Plenty of time to get bigger and faster. Also, Boise St had offered too. I'll trust the opinions of the professional coaches over an internet geek who only looks at stars for his evaluations....Here's a suggestion...if you don't have anything good too say about these kids we are recruiting, why don't you just shut your pie hole!

This is getting ridiculous. Anyone should feel free to say things other than compliments about recruits. I just called a kid too skinny in another thread. Should I shut my pie hole? It would be one thing if duckgrad was making ad hominem insults against a recruit (example: this kid hits like a girl and his gpa shows how stupid he is), but he's not. He might be being a little too negative, and maybe a little arrogant even, but he shouldn't shut his pie hole. Grow up and don't take message boards so seriously. Duckgrad's not telling this kid's mother that he's an awful player, just that he's not his top choice.

No...he's just bagging on the kid because he doesn't fit his mold (3 - 5 stars with lots of offers). He's never seen the kid play.....EVER. He also said Jackson's was a fall back. I guess whoever isn't number #1 on the coaches board is a fall back. Jackson offer was regardless of what Leon or Crim did......I have no problems with peoples opinions of recruits. There are ways to do it with out coming off as a Richard Cranium.

That's an excellent point. Until these recruits play, you never know how they will do. If he does well, great. I was just surprised by the offer when there appears to be better talent out there.

How old are you, 10? THere is no rule that says I have to love every Oregon recruit.

Well offers are important, and the kid is also too skinny. And just because he hasn't seen him play doesn't mean you can't have an opinion. And Jackson very likely could've been a fall back. He didn't receive an offer till very late in the process and I don't think you know whether it was unconditional. A fall back is by definition the thing that you get when you don't get what you want most, and I think we wanted Leon and Crim more. So he's probably right Jackson's a fallback.

And even if he's wrong about both things, it's ridiculous to tell him to shut his pie hole.
