Well, there's 3 main reasons why a kid would suddenly change his mind in a situation like that. He really does like the school, parents, or money. I'm sure there's plenty of others, but those are the main ones. If I had to guess, money would likely be the case, since Oregon was originally the front runner.
AND maybe the fact that his brother is there and he wants to play with him. There's lots of reasons why these kids flip and most often we don't really know.
That’s essentially my point. Any time we miss on a recruit we really wanted the narrative is always that we could’ve had them, we just didn’t want to pay what they were asking. Which was believable the first few times but it’s become the explanation every time.
Tennessee giving Nico $8 mil was one thing but Arizona? The same people saying we have one of the best NIL collectives in the country are telling us that when it comes down to it, we just can’t get together enough money to match… Arizona.
All I’m asking is for the “insiders” to just admit when we get beat for a kid instead of pumping sunshine.
I am not following how anything the ‘insiders’ have to say will make a difference in where the recruit ends up or how you feel about it. Maybe being more resistant to sunshine pumping is in order? ‘Insiders’ have a business model they need to follow to generate their income, as we all know. I doubt they will adjust that in any way that would put a drag on their cash flow.

Looks like it's going to be 0/2 today for Oregon. Brutal considering where we thought we were for these guys less than 48 hours ago.

His point isn't about some difference in where the recruit ends up, his point is about people who charge for their "insider info" who routinely get stuff wrong or else make-up bs to placate why they got it wrong without ever acknowledging that.

If the predictions are true and Oregon doesn’t get either, then I can’t lie I’ll be pretty disappointed in the coaching staff, especially with Elijah Rushing. All the four stars are good and all but if this team wants to compete for the playoffs they need to start getting some five stars. I just hope we don’t resort back to being the second favorite for the 5 stars like we used to be. It’s still early though, we’ll see how this class finishes, but we need like 3 five stars this class to really compete. A bunch of four stars won’t get it done in today’s college football.

Exactly. And I honestly don’t know how much of it is the insiders’ fault. There seems to be an effort being made by Lanning and co to essentially make the recruiting insiders an extended arm of the athletic department. Whatever narrative they want to be applied to our recruiting misses, they feed it to the insiders, and then you have a whole fan base convinced our coaches have never actually miss on a recruit.
And it’s why we’re leading for all these kids until we suddenly aren’t, and then the same NIL story gets trotted out. Like we would pursue a recruit with every resource available then just inexplicably decide we aren’t going to match other NIL offers the day before he announces his commitment. The coaches are likely just getting beat for these kids and are really concerned with controlling the narrative after the fact.
It’s interesting more than anything.

DThomas- I will respectfully disagree here based on some knowledge of things. There are literally no 'recruiting insiders' that Lanning and Co are making an extended arm of the AD. Lanning runs a very, very tight ship when it comes to recruiting. If you thought Mario was tight lipped, Lanning is even more so and only a select group of people on his staff (other than coaches) have direct access to recruiting information/details.
What seems to be the narrative is that some think they are recruiting insiders and portray themselves as such when they are only seeing and hearing the exact same things we are all seeing and hearing and then try to justify their lack of real knowledge with obfuscation.

For the record, I have no inside info. That’s just a guess/theory.
That said, what you’re saying is where my theory comes from. Because there’s no actual leaks anymore, the info the insiders who’s ties are to the program and not the recruits, are getting only what Lanning wants them to get.
The more likely, and more boring, scenario is the one you laid out though ha. Insiders whose source has been cut off are being forced to wing it without any real inside info.

Fair enough on your take. Just my perception based on what I was told is that Dan has a "Fort Knox' type of security on recruiting so there is a lot of misinformation out there. As indicated, we'll never really know and 'winging it' is an apt description of what appears to be going on.
On a separate note, here is an interesting article:

Biggins and Wiltfong both just said today that Oregon is looking good for Dylan Williams.

Rushing to Zona, that one stings. He said family is important to him and his family is there, can’t blame him.
Edit: Just watched the commitment video, Rushing didn’t smile at all and had a very forced smile a little bit after putting the Zona hat on while mom and dad were all smiles, we’ll never know but I have a feeling this is another Peyton Bowman situation where he wanted to go to Oregon but his parents decided elsewhere for him.

Fisch outmaneuvered everyone by getting his brother on scholarship. Doesn’t seem like Lanning is willing to play those games.

I would put money on it that Lanning is willing to play those games if he thinks it's advantageous in the situation. Southeastern Conference born and bred.

Now Blair Angulo put in his pick for Taumua to pick Nebraska. July not going as well as expected so far.

I guess I should say as willing as some. Cristobal did it every chance he got while Lanning has passed so far, as far as I know.

Nothing is set until the papers are signed. If arizona continues to be mediocre or gets blown oit this season he could flip. It does piss me off that we loss tmac and rushing to arizona.
