What a joke... Brian Butler is making Bryce Brown look like a fool.

They need to make it so scholarships disappear within two weeks of signing day. Recruits don't get to drag their recruitment out, what if every recruit started doing this? Coaches have families, lives, etc

That isn't what makes it illegal. If he or his family is benefiting from it monetarily, it's illegal. But if only his mentor is making bank, it's not illegal by legal or NCAA standards. Just being complicit and necessary isn't illegal. Otherwise, every prospect on rivals who does an interview for their premium site would be doing something against the rules.

The difference is this is a specific Bryce Brown website. With those others, he is lumped in with everyone. I would think it is a violation if someone gains from one recruit. Who is to say the money is not funnelled to Brown or his family? Brown does gain from a specific pay site, so I think there might be some issues with it. Not sure, but if it was legal, every single recruit would have their own paid site & Rivals, Scout, etc. would go out of business.

Absolutely brutal situation! I thought these guys were taking it slow to make the right decision now we find out the truth...what a bunch of losers!

Could this guy be seen as an agent in any way and make him ineligible for college? It does sound like something is definitely wrong with this situation!

ANd although I see him as our biggest need...I don't know if we want this guy anymore, it feels tainted.

somehow there must be a loophole in all of this, there is no way on gods greens earth the Brown's and this Butler character are this stupid. They must have found out from the NCAA that this wouldnt effect Bryce's standing with the NCAA what so ever. Doesnt mean its right though.

It's not. If I were to make a pay site about Tajh Boyd, neither he nor I would be doing anything wrong. The recruit or his family must benefit in some material way for there to be a (legal) problem. Now if any of the Browns are benefiting from this, then yeah, I would guess it is a violation. But there is no evidence of that from what I understand. You can't say "Who is to say the money is not funnelled to Brown or his family?" because people are innocent until proven guilty, not vice versa.

And no, not every recruit would do this because very few people are willing to pay 10 bucks a month to get a little extra info. I doubt even this site will make much money, and that's with him being the top recruit in the country. Rivals and Scout do well because they give you info on EVERYONE for 10 bucks a month. People wouldn't pay that for individual recruits.

Brian Butler, mentor for UM oral commitment Bryce Brown (the nation's top high school running back) said Butler won't sign anywhere until at least March; he also is considering Tennessee, Kansas State, Auburn and Southern California; and he wants to learn about UM's new offensive coordinator. Butler said his website will charge $9.99 monthly for Brown updates. Signing day is Feb. 4.

Actually, the article said Butler won't sign until February, says Butler. So I wouldn't worry too much about Brown; let Butler worry about worrying about Butler.

You misinterpreted what I said. I NEVER accused any of the Browns from profiting. I was merely pointing out that on the surface it wouldn't look good. If it's legal, then fine. Doesn't sound right to let your mentor make money off of you though.......kind of weird. Must be a misquote on the guy or something. Like everything else during this recruiting cycle, probably should only believe about 1/3 of what we read.
