i saw ernie play and thought he had class.. to this day i still feel that
way. he bleeds green and yellow. remember he said he'd crawl here to
get the job as ducks head coach. that being said tho, college sports is
a business. it's a head coach's responsibility to have his program generating
revenue for the university. now the guessing game will begin. i hope they
go with someone that is young and up and coming that has already made
a name for himself. i dont want to see them bring in someone thats say
55 or 60 and will only coach a few years. i want someone that can
relate to the younger kids now. someone that can push them to play
good defense and play within themselves. someone that will bring excitement
back to duck basketball. thank you ernie for your loyalty and commitment
to not just oregon basketball but the university of oregon and its fans..

Thank you for everything Ernie. However, it's time to move on. Thank you again.

I share everyone's thoughts here. Ernie really brought this program a long way, but I'm glad things will be changing. It's certainly never boring being a duck fan, that's for sure.

Looks like a few posters on this board were right about this like soduck, so thanks for the info. If any other news comes out about this, please share everyone.

It is too bad that he didn't step down last year on his own terms. Thanks for everything Ernie, but it was time.

I feel real bad about this. I mean, he needed to go but dammit I really wanted him to do good. I dont think that you will ever find a more devoted and loyal coach and I wanted him to be able to coach at the new facility that he helped build. Its really unfortunate that he couldn't bring this team together and improve over last year.

The only thing that wants Ernie to stay around is so he can coach in the building that he helped get built, but he had his chances and blew them. I bet he's there on opening night, just depends as a fan or as a coach.

Hopefully this is made official soon, because all we have to go by until then are "reports".

Like Bobby Bowden before him, Kent will be remembered for all of the great things he did...a long time ago.

At least he got to walk out with his head held high and he delivered a win in Mac Court's swan song. I have been rooting for Ernie to get fired for a while and now that it is here I am excited about the new direction we're going to be taking but I do feel bad for Ernie. He has given this school his life and he has taken the program to a higher level but it is time for someone new to take the next step, like Rich Brooks transitioning to Bellotti for the football program. Brooks laid a foundation, Bellotti made us a contender, hopefully, Ernie has laid a foundation here and hopefully the next guy (Mark Few???) makes us a contender.

I hope Ernie can get another job at like a Big Sky or Big West school or something, I feel he would be successful at the lower ranks, he just never had the chops to be a consistent winner with the big boys.

If he's fired, how do you think this affects the current players? I say we lose 2-3 players to transfer. Once you add in Porter and possibly Catron, you are down to 8 scholarship players. I don't see how a coach is able to replace those players with recruits this late in the game. If anything, he would have to fill in with some JC players or lower-ranked recruits. They may be bad the first year if this happens.

The way I see it, even the worst case scenario won't be much worse than this year.

So worse than this year is okay for the new coach?

Considering the turmoil that he is coming in under? I would say that it is okay for the first year. I seriously doubt they will find a coach that will manage to do worse than this year though.

i sure hope not with the talent that ernie provided for them next year ...this is such hilarious bullshit...if i didn't iove the ducks i'd wish a bunch of them would transfer so the new coach would actually have to recruit his players to eugene...but i'd rather win
