That's not entirely true. Look at the national champions for the last several years, and then look at their recruiting classes over those years.

Agreed, USC would beg to differ with you. I do believe we can win on a consistant basis with the way we have been recruiting, but you need great coaching and consistancy at the QB position, which we obviously have. One good thing about recruiting lesser thought of players is they have 5 years in the program to develop while other schools have guys leaving after 3 years, but I would still rather have Malialuga and Cushing over Paysinger and John Bacon. I will also contend that though we have a long history of finding 1 star guys that become studs (Byrd, Chung, Thurmond, JJ and on and on and on) the lesser known guys that jump on at the very end haven't panned out the way we hoped (Mike Speed, Simi Toaina, Dragich, Livi Horn, Gllover, William Wallace, Krout).

While we are getting where we want to be as a program, we aren't there yet. I think one reason we might see some inconsistency in recruiting is due to the fact that between 2002-2006, we didn't do well except for one season. On top of that, we weren't winning bowl games. This after coming off 2 fantastic seasons before 2002. Thankfully, we have put together back to back good seasons again, so I really am hoping that recruiting picks up in 2010.
