Pac-10 Recruiting Rankings 1/30/09
Thought it might be interesting to see how we're doing against our Pac-10 foes with 5 days to go... obviously a few late additions, and a certain #1 player, would give us a big jump.

Re: Pac-10 Recruiting Rankings 1/30/09
With the success Oregon has had in the past decade and all that they have to offer, there is no reason they should finish in the bottom half of the pac-10 in terms of recruiting. What Stanford is doing is quite frankly incredible. What bothers me is to see schools year in and year out do well in recruiting even though they aren't winning programs. Location, academics, etc are very important when choosing a school, but I know that if I was an athlete, I wouldn't want to go somewhere where the team constantly has losing records and is going to mediocre or no bowl games.

It has a lot to do with our location...But we'll move up in the end when we add a couple of these 4 star guys and we've been in the top 1/3 the last few years and thats about as good as you can expect with all the talent in Cali those schools get to choose from

With a decent coach in place, Stanford has long been a threat in the PAC-10. High academic qualifiers, want to go there because most of them are well aware that the NFL dream isn't going to work out for the vast majority of D-1 players from anywhere, but a Stanford degree will always get your resume a look.

One thing to remember is our class still has quite a few spots to fill while most of those schools are completely full. If we close out with five or six 3* & 4* players we will jump right up there. Diante Jackson isn't being factored into any of those rankings either. Like a lot of people have been saying, judge this class once it's finished. Feb. 5th will be a good day to come back & look at this class.

I find it hard to believe the Fuskies are last considering evey one of their guys automatically gains a star upon signing

Those rankings seem to suggest that location is a recruits first consideration when selecting a school. Not that it should be, but it's just the way it is.

Six 3* and 4* players? Who do you figure? Maybe Gaines, maybe D Jackson but then who? Other than those guys I don't even see 4-5 more guys on the radar, let alone that will sign with us. I'm guessing we get 1 or 2 guys that we have heard of and the rest are guys out of nowhere like Arden to fill the class. I actually think it would be better to just leave those spots open and have like 35 scholarships available for 2010. So if you know of guys that I don't please fill me in!

That's who I was figuring. Gaines, Jackson and possibly DeQuin Evans as the 4*s & the rest would be 3*s like Justin Brown, Tepa, Wheaton & Johnson. Though I don't know how likely the last two are.GoDuckYourself wrote:Six 3* and 4* players? Who do you figure? Maybe Gaines, maybe D Jackson but then who? Tepa will go UCLA, Evans I have heard is extreamly doubtful, Wheaton also doubtful and Johnson is likely committed to UW, though he's a bit of a wild card. Justin Brown maybe our only good bet out of the bunch. People around here seem to be very optimistic we get both Gaines and Jackson but they both seem to be about 50/50 to me.

Yeah I'm just trying to be optimistic. I am confident in Jackson & somewhat confident in Gaines. As far as the other guys, I hope your wrong but I'm starting to think your prediction will be a lot more accurate than mine

Considering most of us think its a down or we expected more...
UCLA
1 - 5 Star
5 - 4 Star
14 - 3 Star
2 - 2 Star
CAL
0 - 5 Star
6 - 4 Star
12 - 3 Star
0 - 2 Star
AZst
1 - 5 Star
0 - 4 Star
13 - 3 Star
6 - 2 Star
UO
0 - 5 Star
4 - 4 Star
12 - 3 Star
3 - 2 Star
It all looks pretty close to me and we know we are gaining at least two more 4 Star players...Not too bad considering!

Once again, to act like it is a sure thing that Gaines and D Jack are coming seems a little overly optimistic. It sounds like there is some inside info on Jackson, but I don't think anyone really knows about Gaines. Not trying to be a negaduck, just trying to set my own realistic expactations.

Fair enough but you must admit all the above classes are pretty close in talent!GoDuckYourself wrote:Once again, to act like it is a sure thing that Gaines and D Jack are coming seems a little overly optimistic. Re: Pac-10 Recruiting Rankings 1/30/09
Yes, they are close in talent and I'm not trying to say this isn't a talented class. All I was trying to say was that there may be 1 or 2 guys that we have heard of that could boost our rating a little, but for the most part we will start seeing the class fill out with guys out of nowhere that we've never heard of before. Not that they will be bad players to have, but they won't be highly rated players to boost our ranking. Low and behold, look what's happening.
