So instead, we sit back and wait for the (Possibly) magical run to happen, graduate another huge class, recruit 6-8 more guys, then wait for the cycle to repeat... However poorly you may think this search for Ernie's replacement has been handled, that cycle was showing no evidence of improvement, with EK at the helm.
With proper management, this team should have been at least competitive every season, instead of the on-going Boom/Bust cycle Duck fans have become used to experiencing.

but if the product isnt an improvement then they will see lots of empty seats.
The bar has been raised. win early and often.
You do realize the arena doesn't open til pac-10 play...Meaning that if this team is as terrible as it's looking it might be with a few more departures and no success on getting incoming recruits this class then we will all have seen them play before the arena opens and all those people who aren't gonna just go to the games to go see the ducks like a lot of us will aren't gonna go and that arena is not gonna be full...I'll be there no matter as I'm sure a lot of you will...
I just wish it was to watch this team on their journey the tournament this year and a deep run next year instead of this disaster the PK's and boosters have created
Yeah, because we all know they would have been a top ten/definite sweet 16 team if Kent was the coach.

Right cause that's what was said there...And if you don't think this team was on it's way to the tourney next year i'm not sure what you were watching...With adding Jones and another guy if Catron doesn't come back or just Jones and keeping catron, it becomes a more mature team with two stud young guys in Jones and Wilson...the next year everyone's another year older and more mature and we replace LL with a guy like Wroten or another top recruit and have a team loaded with seniors, ya I'd say they be poised to make a tourney run, doesn't guarantee anything but would for sure be in a whole hell of a lot better shape than they're gonna be in now...And yes I do get to keep with the what ifs until we have a new coach, at that point he'll be our coach and that'll be that
First of all, I highly doubt we would have gotten Jones and Wroten if Kent was still here. Second, what makes you think we would have been all set and good and all set for a tourny run with a loaded roster? Kent had good rosters before and did nothing with them. You cannot do anything with a poor coach, and that's what Ernie was.

This team would have been competitive next year even without the Terrences and with Kent as the head coach......
If more players leave this summer, then we wont be competitive for 4 to 6 years from now.

We may turn into OSU of the previous decade and a half but with a nicer arena, which to me would be unacceptable.

If more players leave, I agree that we will be in for a long rebuilding process. If no more players leave, I think we can still be competitive the next few years with maybe a 2 year rebuilding process. I'm not denying that things are a mess right now, but I still think firing Kent was the right move.

Firing Kent was the right move but the coaching search has been too slow and fumbled to make it seem that way to a lot of fans. Any more players leaving would basically sentence this team to the bottom of the conference for at least the next 3 years until the new coach could fill out the roster and balance the classes.

I'm not necessarily debating that.
My big problem with this is that if you fire Kent then you better be damn sure you can hire someone....... and not 2 months later......
I always though Kent did a decent job for Oregon and I had my doubts that we could do much better especially with a 1 million per year salary.
But when they announced the firing of Ernie Kent I thought that meant they could at the very least hire Mark Few.......
and now were to the point that we have no idea who the coach will be and players are leaving......
So was it the right move to fire Kent? for me that is still undecided....

Yup, I agree with that. When you fire someone, you had better be confident that you can come up with a good replacement soon after. I think they probably got a bit cocky expecting to easily get one of the big name coaches.

I thought that they would make a quick hire after firing Kent since you normally don't fire a coach without having a few names that would certainly take the job. The cockiness in landing a new, big-name coach was all due to the fact that they had Phil's pocketbook at their disposal. Now that those type of coaches aren't responding to that, they are basically starting over and now have to set their sights lower, which they probably didn't plan on and refuse to admit that they made some missteps in the search.

Confidence was never the problem... Over-confidence, combined with the horribly timed shove in the back to Belloti, was.
I sincerely believe, had MB retained his position as AD, he could have filled this position in a reasonable amount of time, without all the apparent fumbles and miscues.
Thanks alot, Lariviere!

People are forgetting the ONLY reason that the Terrence's are looking at us is because we are getting a new coach.

I don't think that's accurate

Its definitely not accurate. I thought Kent should have been fired, last year, in fact rather than this year.
However, I know that both Jones and Ross would have considered us with Kent as coach as well. We may not have landed them, but they had nothing against Kent personally and I know for a fact that both of them liked his guard oriented, up tempo, "style" of play.
The only problem with Kent, from their perspective, was the uncertainty of his position as coach. I'm not saying they would have come if we kept him, but we were definitely in the running.

Completely inaccurate
