Not BCS teams, but UCSB and possible N. Dakota will be in the NCAA this year. Last year we lost to Montana, and I would be UCSB would beat them.

Great start so far. These aren't BCS teams obviously but they're still quality opponents that would have most likely beaten us in the last couple of years. And we're without arguably our best player in JJ.

Can't wait until he's back since he'll really help Catron shoulder the scoring load and should help open up our outside shooters.

Yeah exactly. Catron has been great but Jacob's a good amount better, and taller. I'm seriously loving how we work it inside. Can you imagine if we still had Dunigan? This year is making me realize just how much talent was on this team the past few years & how badly it was wasted. We were pretty much loaded.

Really surprised that we beat UCSB because I actually think that they have more talent than Oregon. UCSB is a pretty darn good team and should make the NCAA tournament again this year. This is going to be a tough year for the program, but it's nice knowing that these kids are going to work their butts off and play hard for Coach Altman.

Agreed completely, I think some people see "UCSB" and assume they're a bad team just because they aren't in a BCS conference, but I think they had more talent on the floor then we did, too. College hoops is built on really good mid-major programs, there are dozens and dozens and dozens of really good mid-majors in hoops, unlike the three or four football has.

This was a GOOD win.

So why isn't the big fella playing? Jeremy Jacob was out and only 3 minutes for the German?

Is he that much of project that he cant get some run against UC Santa Barbara?

Yeah pretty much. He can barely dribble.

Good to see the team can win the close games and make adjustments. I really like what I have seen so far. Once this team has more talent Altman should have Oregon back to the tournament!

That's why the news of JJ possibly being back in a week is very welcomed.

Thanks for the props guys--you're definitely not homers. Our big guy got hacked and so did OJ with no calls, but I'm sure we got some calls too, so that's to be expected when you're in someone else's house. Re the flagrant elbow on Somogyi, even the UO announcers said that wasn't an intentional foul. It didn't cost the Gauchos the two free throws, but the Williams 3 as a result of the extra possession was a killer.

Altman is a good coach and players will like his system of full court presses and pushing the tempo. And now that he is getting great recruits next year, UO should be contending for the Pac 10 again in a couple years. Good luck the rest of the season. I think your guys will win a few more pac 10 games than what the pundits think.

BTW, your fans were total class by clapping after Nunnally turned an ankle. The Mac is a great venue, but the Knight will be even better.

Yeah, that elbow definitely wasn't a flagrant. Tough call for UCSB.

Glad you liked Mac, it's ancient but it's fun and has a lot of history. Fan apathy really set in under the old coach, otherwise the building would have been rocking a bit more... kinda sad that the UO kept announcing 6k in attendance, and all 2k of us looked around in amusement wondering where they were hiding all the other fans.
