Re: News on a 5* SF?
Geez Dana is getting aggressive isn't he. Since when did he turn into Roy Williams in recruiting??
Might not be as hard as sell though, sit on the bench in an established program or be part of the future.
All he has to do is look at the recruits we are getting to know we are going to rule the Pac-10 in a
couple of years!!

How is this even possible? Don't we only have like 2 scholarship baskeball players on the team right now?greenyellow wrote: We could only sign one of those guys since there's only 1 spot left in the class.

They wouldn't have extended offers to Daniels, Chandler, Jarion Henry, and Phil Greene if they could only take one more scholarship player.

There is always the chance that they are conditional and/or first come, first serve. Teams always seem to offer more scholarships than they have openings since there's a chance only one will actually bite on the offer.DarronThomas1 wrote:They wouldn't have extended offers to Daniels, Chandler, Jarion Henry, and Phil Greene if they could only take one more scholarship player.

if Daniels and Chandler both say they want to be Ducks, I'm sure Dana will do whatever he has to do to get them both into the program.greenyellow wrote:There is always the chance that they are conditional and/or first come, first serve. Yeah DT1 is right. Didn't Altman give Westhead's grandson a scholly? If Daniels & Chandler wanna be Ducks, that kid won't have a scholly no mo. DA will take these guys no matter what.DarronThomas1 wrote:if Daniels and Chandler both say they want to be Ducks, I'm sure Dana will do whatever he has to do to get them both into the program.greenyellow wrote:There is always the chance that they are conditional and/or first come, first serve. I thought Westhead's kid was a walk on. Only saw him play once so far this year.dthomas=ddixon wrote:Yeah DT1 is right. Didn't Altman give Westhead's grandson a scholly? G Armstead
G Loyd
G Sim
G Teondre
G Brown
G Kingma
G Barron
F Jacob
F Nared
F Singler
F Seiferth
F Kuemper
That's 12. We have one more scholarship to give out for next season. More than likely, greenyellow is 100% right, we gave out three or four offers and told everybody that it's going to the first kid who takes it.
That said, it is possible that Altman knows of a defection or two that we the fans do not, and is recruiting accordingly. I think the most likely one would be Seiferth and Oregon "mutually" moving in different directions.

One thing to note - scholarships are renewed on an annual basis. I really believe that Garrett Sim is not a Pac 10 caliber player. It may be a dick move, but I think Altman should pull Sim's scholarship. On the court, Sim has definitely not performed. He'll be a senior next season and he's an instate kid, so his tuition won't be very much. Sim would also have the option of transferring to a D2 school, where he would get more playing time and wouldn't have to sit out a year. I realize that this is an unlikely scenario, but this not at all uncommon, especially in college basketball. Ben Howland has done this with multiple players at UCLA.

I still don't understand why he signed Brett Kingma..... To me..... he looks pretty similar to Sim. Both are undersized 2 guards who will struggle to defend and create their own shot in the Pac 10.uostudent wrote:One thing to note - scholarships are renewed on an annual basis. Romar has done it, too, at UW, and has taken all sorts of s*** for it. It's a dick move, and I guarantee it won't happen.uostudent wrote:One thing to note - scholarships are renewed on an annual basis. I really believe that Garrett Sim is not a Pac 10 caliber player. Re: News on a 5* SF?
To be fair, Kingma doesn't pretend to be a PG. Kingma knows that he is an undersized SG. I think that Kingma is considered a better shooter than Sim was at the high school. Kingma could carve out a nice career as a Ryan Appleby-type (minus being a complete baby). Kingma also has much better offers coming out of high school than Sim did.Boom wrote:I still don't understand why he signed Brett Kingma..... To me..... he looks pretty similar to Sim. Kingma's offers:
Arizona State
BYU
Boston College
Gonzaga
Pepperdine
Vanderbilt
Washington
Sim's offers:
Boise
Cal (offer may have been rescinded after Braun was fired)
Fresno St.
Portland
San Diego St.
Santa Clara

Re: News on a 5* SF?
His offer list is marginally better and suggests that he's a mid major talent just like Sim, but regardless why would you take him when we already have 2 other SG's in this class? Is Altman planning on a 4 guard lineup?

Re: News on a 5* SF?
If Kingma actually had all of those offers, or even if those were just schools showing interesting, they are clearly better than the one's listed for Sim (SDSU was not a Top 25 team at the time). In the video of the Oregon-Washington Prep All-Star Challenge it was pretty clearly that Kingma has an incredibly quick shot, whether or not he will be able to contribute as more than a role player remains to be seen (but role players get scholarships as well). Going even further, Rivals currently has him ranked as the 125th best recruit in the class. Granted, the accuracy of recruiting sites is up for debate and his ranking is subject to change, but they saw something in him at some point.Boom wrote:His offer list is marginally better and suggests that he's a mid major talent just like Sim, but regardless why would you take him when we already have 2 other SG's in this class? Also, Barron is a PG and figures to contribute at that position.
