[quote="USUaggieDuck"]Weber State's best player is better than anybody I can name to ever play for oregon. I don't mean that as an insult, really.

Ever hear of Terrell Brandon, Luke Ridnour, Jim Barnett, or Greg Ballard?

An undersized shooting guard who NBA scouts hope will develop into a PG...plays against weak competition...turns the ball over too much...field goal % has hovered around 43%.

NBAdraft.net projects him as going late in the second round in the 2012 draft.

Sounds like a future hall of famer..
“If everybody in this room just want to be real with themselves, this game could have went either way,” he said. “We turned the ball over a lot. We beat ourself. Just be real with yourself right now. We beat ourself.”

Pretty sad if you'd want these guys, especially after all their hard work this season, to miss out on playing a few more games & getting some great experience just because the tourny isn't up to your standards. Who cares, the players are probably pumped & I'm sure Altman is really glad to have at least another week of practice with these guys.
When asked about the possibility of playing in a lesser tournament, Altman didn't sound very enthused, but said he would leave the decision up to his players. I'm proud of this year's team, but it's hard to get excited about them playing in a pay for play tournament.

There's a reason why teams like Minnesota and Maryland turned down CBI invites.

And remember when everyone was making fun of OSU for bragging about being in the CBI the past few years?

Yikes, are we talking about production or results? If It's results. Fred Jones, Luke Ridnour, Luke Jackson, and Aaron Brooks >>>>> Lillard.

18.7 as a freshman, 18.8 as a sophomore, 18.4 as a junior and 18.6 as a senior for Ron Lee. That's over 2,000 career points. Lillard so far has a little over 1,000 points... Lee also had 572 assists. Lillard has 234.

Luke Jackson - 1,970 points... Ridnour, and about 19 other Ducks have scored more points in their careers than Lillard.

Even Malik Hairston has been more productive than Lillard in just about every category. Hairston 1644 points, 588 rebounds, 244 assists to Lillard's 1,150 points, 283 rebounds, 233 assists. Granted Hariston played one more season than Lillard, but Hairston shot over 51% for his career. Lillard's so far 43%. Hairston was also a 40% 3point shooter. Lillard 37%. I can do player to player comparison's like this all day. If Lillard can't have better numbers on crappy teams like Weber state than players like Malik Hairston who wasn't even our best player on our squad, then to compare him greater than any Duck is ridiculous statement.

I seem to recall earlier quotes from Altman on the subject, before the Pac-10 Tourney, that sounded pretty positive about continuing the season as long as possible. He doesn't need to repeat the entirety of his sentiments each time he's asked.

Minnesota and Maryland have had much more ongoing basketball success than Oregon has over the years -- just recently, for instance, they each made the Big Dance the last two years and the NIT the year before that -- and so the CBI would indeed seem like a big letdown. Oregon's program, where you're basically looking for any opportunity to get better, is in a much different place than either of those two programs right now.

The two consecutive years of OSU getting to the CBI were right after two consecutive years of the Ducks making the Big Dance (including the Elite Eight once), so it was easy to look down at the Beavers' post-season. And Duck fans who did that were probably also reacting within a context of Beaver fans saying that their basketball program was better than the Ducks' at that point.

I don't remember ANYBODY making fun of OSU for going to the CBI; I remember everybody making fun of OSU fans for winning the thing, then having the audacity to BRAG about it.

The same applies to us. We all realize that the CBI is a substandard postseason tournament. It is, however, a postseason tournament, and the goal of both the NIT and the CBI is to gain some postseason experience so that hopefully you can continue to build your program and reach the NCAA Tournament soon.

If OSU had won the CBI, kept their mouths shut, and built on their postseason run, nobody with a brain would have made fun of them for it because the benefits would have been visibly apparent. Instead, they won the thing, hilariously flamed eDuck up and down looking for respect, then took a couple giant steps backwards in the following years. THAT'S why people make fun of OSU and the CBI.

Both Washington and Stanford have been to the CBI in recent years and nobody says a peep about it because both schools understood the purpose of the CBI. Oregon State reacted like they won the NCAA Tournament. Thus, we mocked them, and never gave Washington's CBI bid a second thought.

And the Ducks got those numbers against much better competition.

Sure we'd want a better tournament but considering our years expectations, I'm happy for the guys. This young team can use more time together especially in a tournament!

Plus OSU was bragging about getting there with like a 13-19 record, while Oregon is going in 1 game under .500 with the chance to build on some late success in the Pac-10 Tournament, knowing that anything else they do is building up for next season.

Maybe we should turn down our bowl game next if we fail to make the BCS again?
That's just stupid

At least You have to have a winning record to get into a bowl game

Sad?

This isn't Kidsports... not everyone needs a trophy.

The extra practice is nice, but it's not going to make any real difference. The biggest improvement is always made during the off season.

Conceivably you can be .500 and go. I don't know, I didn't expect much (read: ANYTHING) from this group in terms of post season play. So to me I see only positives out of this.
