Some minor updates on Devon Williams:

* The Beavs 247 site confirmed that he was in Eugene yesterday. The Beavs are sweating that we'll find room to take him.

* Greg Biggins was on Canzano's show yesterday, and he said he's talked to Devon but won't say what he's thinking. He hinted that the reason Williams was wanting out of USC is because he wanted a bigger role, and next year they have Bru McCoy eligible and Kyle Ford back from injury. Oregon wasn't mentioned, but it's because Canzano was pushing the Beaver narrative as he tends to do sometimes to appease their whiny fans.

* Beaver fans were expecting a commit today. Williams does need to decide soon to be able to enroll as classes are starting.

Since it was said that he was taking that trip to oac I had a feeling he'd settle on the beavs for that reason alone. He's the BMOC there vs JAG at USC or UO.

I read somewhere that it might be an issue of Oregon taking 25 recruits this year already, and that Steele's brief dalliance with the Ducks might actually be an obstacle, as that was player number 25 in the 2019 class.

It's funny about these receiver transfers. They never seem to do as well as one hopes. On paper, it should be a big advantage to bring in an experienced guy, given that receivers usually take so long to learn their position, route running, etc. In this case though, it's hard to see an advantage for Williams, since he isn't getting any snaps.

^ Steele never signed a LOI though, he just signed financial aid paperwork. Not sure if that makes a difference or not.

I heard he is headed to Oregon State should be announced anytime. From a pretty reliable source.

Not a big loss for us, it looks like a combination of us not being able to take him and him wanting to go somewhere less crowded. I would have still liked Devon, even if it was just to spite the Beavs. But considering we have Addison and we'll get Johnny Wilson I can't blame another tall WR for not being a priority.

OSU is a good spot for Devon, though I could have made an argument for UofO as well because I don't think the starting rotation receiver talent is very different between the schools (I'm sure some won't like hearing that, but it's reality at the moment). I think the depth of talent at Oregon is greater, so that could have taken some snaps from Devon here.

Anyway, far from a big loss. Maybe OSU will finally be competitive.

Let's all be honest, we did want him and would have loved to have gotten him.

It's obvious that he wanted to be the guy. He would have not been the guy at Oregon. Pitman has first dibs on that currently.

According to Beavers official page, Jonathan Smith has already commented on Williams which would mean he had to have signed a LOI already.

It's not the same as commenting on a PSA fresh out of HS... And, at this point Williams would be signing an aid agreement, rather than an LOI.
