There also seems to be a new level of volatility to recruiting. I’m very skeptical of the “school A just dropped a bag” narratives; there doesn’t seem to be a lot of real evidence that’s happening, just lots of message board fodder. I don’t know what else it would be though, the wild flip flipping seems to point to something like that taking place right at the end of these kids’ recruitments.

His point isn't about some difference in where the recruit ends up, his point is about people who charge for their "insider info" who routinely get stuff wrong or else make-up bs to placate why they got it wrong without ever acknowledging that.
If you aren’t getting your return on investment, don’t subscribe, I suppose. I never have spent money on that sort of stuff. When they sign, they sign. With the transfer portal, that does not really matter much either.
Also Platt is down to Oregon and Oklahoma officially. Will announce his commitment on September 4th.
Maybe distance will work in our favor this time.
I would think so. But recruiting is as volatile as ever until the last second, especially with NIL deals.
If I'm down to a few schools that are really comparable, if someone is offering $100k more than the other schools then that would probably be the difference for me.
I know winning doesn't always correlate with recruiting, but I do think there's certainly a challenge recruiting at the very top echelon when we haven't won like UGA/Bama/Clemson/Ohio State just yet.
Other factor is we really do need to figure out the conference thing at some point.
It's easy to blast Lanning and staff for missing on some 5* kids, but both of those factors are against us at that elite tier right now and they aren't insignificant.
If we lose out on Baker I'd be pretty annoyed. Hopefully we can close him and then flip Rushing or close 2-3 more of the top tier guys by December. The running back from Mater Dei in particular would be awesome.
I'm excited about the linebacker class, even without Justin Williams, especially if we get Platt. Him and Mathudi both have some awesome hudl clips. Platt is FAST.

We also don't have the big city and networking (ex-nike) angle of recruiting working for us.
Agree that a consistent record of winning nattys and top bowl games is the top factor for recruiting most top prospects. If we continue to make strides on the field this season we could see some recruits that considered Oregon sign with us, as quite a few top 20 recruiting schools are only one QB injury away from having horrible seasons. (ie USC)
If the Ducks reel in Platt, that's a rock solid LB class, and very good defensive recruiting class overall. Recruiting has such a big asterisk around "will this player even be here in 3 years" that I don't know how much it all matters, but I'd rather have good players over bad ones, I suppose.
Glad they've got 2 QBs, but not sure either is Oregon caliber. Moga is a great athlete but has a few years of development ahead of him as a passer. MVB will come in better prepared, but I don't know what upside he has. Might be an Anu Solomon at best.
