Case in point: I didn't realize that the coach Iowa just fired was Todd Lickliter, the former coach at Butler.
He only lasted three years in the Big-10 before he got booted. What will he do now? Where will he go? I'm sure he'll probably get another shot at a mid-major school, but it will be a long time - if ever, before he gets a shot at coaching in a major conference again.
Don't get me wrong here, I'm not saying that every coach at mid-major schools should rest on their laurels and never try to move up in the ranks. I'm only saying that there's significant risk involved in doing so, and you'd better be willing to accept the consequences of failure if you decide to give it a shot.
