According to them, anytime Oregon does something well or gets something new, it's because the Ducks cheated or Phil Knight/Nike bought it.
That's how most, if not all SEC teams feel about us. I didn't know so many hated us until this past season. We've always been good to everyone, but I guess our family type atmosphere and community makes us bad people.
Our fanbases are strikingly similar, yet different in their own ways. I think that's what really drew me to the Ducks. Being a good representative of your school really goes a long way.
I think that happens every year to any school that is at the top. As soon as they start losing, people are only so happy to see them fall. You only have to look at all the shots people have taken at the likes of Florida, Ohio State, and Texas over the years to see that people will attack those on top. No one is going to bother a school like New Mexico or Florida International if they have some type of scandal brewing.

I pretty much agree about Auburn. I see many ways that Cecil could have shopped Cam without Auburn having paid anything or known about it. For example, he could have dealt with an Auburn booster otherwise unconnected to the program, he could have been told by Auburn to shut up and that he was jeapordizing his sons career, he could have simply given up on the scheme before Auburn got involved, etc.
It's the idea that Cam didn't know what his dad was up to part that I can't get my head around. The only defense we really have on that is Cecil's word. This thing was dragged through the spot-light for months before he admitted to his part in it. So, I can't take his word for it that he's really coming entirely clean. I mean, if there was never going to be any consequence for what he did, why didn't he just admit it immediately? He would have saved his family a lot of grief. His behavior has always been consistent with someone who has something to hide.

Oregon fans seem to be the least confrontational and difficult about it.
Thank you for saying. I've also appreciated your input and approach here. I've been impressed with the entire Auburn fan base in general.

Nothing new here. Wake me up in 4 years when the NCAA finishes their "investigation" ala USC.

Hmm, I really do not see people jumping on the wagon just because they are Bama fans... They must realize that legal action can, and more than likely will, be taken if they are lying.
As to the 'missing tape' being reason to dismiss these allegations, if the FBI/IRS are investigating a money trail then they will have that tape. If so, it will come out when their investigation is over.

Personally, I think if a Gump had possession of the incriminating evidence concerning the Barn, it would already be public knowledge.
Shoot, some doofus would likely have girdled the Toomer's Oaks and stapled multiple copies of the manifesto to the bleeding trunk.

Hmm, and where pray tell has it even been hinted that a 'gump', as you so delicately put it, was in posession of said evidence?
He cooberated that it existed, which is the most he can do.

Folks,
Auburn is going to get railroaded and they will deserve every bit of punishment they get. Cam Newton is the least of their worries at this point in time.
Auburn fans are in complete denial about what's going on as well. What's even worse is that the cheating never stopped even after Ramseygate in 1992.
Newton got more than $200,000.00 and you can add Michael Dyer, Dakota Mosely, Trovon Reed, and a whole host of others and allegations have been running rampart regarding Christian Westerman and Cyrus Kouandjio.
Auburn has insutionalized cheating going on and heads will roll when it gets exposed. It's all a matter of time.
Mike Slive will be whacked for being complicit and failing to take action and the NCAA will be under serious pressure to reform.
It's not just limited to Auburn either it just so happens that a flashlight was turned on and instead of seeing noting on the ground a whole host of cockroaches were found and when people started to look where the cockroaches were coming from they began to see that the cockroaches were part of the whole house and had been breeding for years despite being allegedly wiped out 20 years earlier.

Well, I don't know what your definition of "railroaded" is, but to me that is comparable to the SMU death penalty. I read "As the Plains Burn" and then I found that nothing came out of it. If you say Slive has been complicit then you better include NCAA president Emmertt in this as well because both the NCAA and SEC have willfully ignored their own rules when it comes to Cam/Cecil. As far as the others goes, until something with substance actually pops up beyond all the hearsay we've been getting, I'll start paying attention again. As of now, if anything does come of this, it will be like with USC where in 3-4 years something will finally be done, but it will have been done solely on the testimony of people who have changed their stories multiple times (excluding the Mayo portion).
Also, as other reporters and "insiders" have acknowledged, the shady practices are much much worse in BB than they are in FB and if so many big time schools are as involved as its been rumored, there is absolutely no way the NCAA takes out all of their top $$ makers for any considerable period of time. All the NCAA cares about is making their $ - they could care less about the amateur athletes

SMU will look like a game of pattycake compare to what's coming down the pike for Auburn and the NCAA is going to be in loads of hot water. Emmert is up for debate and I haven't heard a lot yet concering his future. Slive on the other hand is toast. The thing is Auburn isn't the only complicit SEC school they're just the ones that up to their eyeballs in it and have gotten so used to the smell that they can't smell crap they're stewing in.

Now why, with all the money involved, is the ncaa going to do anything to prevent that flow of $? There will never be another Death Penalty again, and a large reason for it is because so many other schools were doing the exact same things. Frankly, you haven't offered up any evidence of how this is going to happen, just that this is what you feel is going to happen. You take out say 10 of the big South/East schools, you lose major revenues. When all is said and done, there is going to be some major wrist slaps, which is what I'd call the punishment USC is getting right now

Dumb comment of the day. Unless the NCAA plans to wipe Auburn University off the map I don't think they could do anything worse than what they did to SMU.

Agree with you there. There's a reason it was called a "death penalty" for SMU because it was harsh and just about caused the school to drop football. The NCAA is very wary to hand out any more death penalties and would likely just hand out scholarship reductions, recruiting restrictions for the coaches, and bowl sanctions if anything did come down.

Auburn is getting it from all sides here and it's not just the NCAA. Auburn is already on probation with SACS and that may very well get their accreditation yanked which means no more Auburn University. The football stuff is only a sliver of what's been going on at Auburn. Bobby Lowder was using Auburn Univserity as his personal slush fund to run all sorts of schemes in concert with colonial Bank. That's why it's taking so long to get Auburn introuble. They're (FBI) still sorting through the entire mess between Colonial Bank, Victoryland, Auburn, etc. and trying to sort out how it all relates. It's gigantic maze and while it seems unbelievable Alabama state politics is as crooked as it comes.

so if you dial 411 you get "As the plains burn"? Really man, everything you have mentioned comes straight out of that piece and so much of it is hearsay that its not even funny. I remember when I too thought AU would lose accreditation, but that is not going to happen at all. Especially if all the "dirty" stuff is all the work of Lowder. Really, with your low post count and the fact that you really only harp on AU, I'm thinking you must be a bammer fan
