Apparently, he didn't start class and flew home to LA instead. This is hilarious. Can you imagine being OSU and knowing that Williams doesn't want to go there? This isn't the same as the maneuvering that happens before LOI day. If the dude isn't careful, he'll end up not at either school.

Haha, this whole situation is super funny. Has any recruit created this much drama twice?

I can laugh at it because he's a luxury item for us, while for the Beavlets this is a crown jewel.

What did we do to Chris Steele? Did we try to get him to not have immediate eligibility at USC? Something like that?

No harm to us either way, but just embarrassing as can be for Oregon State. If he does wind up at Cornvalley this would be like your girlfriend telling you she liked your friend better but he was already seeing someone else.

I'm just wondering if this is a common situation, where a team is willing to continue offering a scholarship to a player that obviously doesn't want to go there and is overtly shopping around at another school. Don't the Beavers have any self-respect? Or maybe this happens all the time, and filling out a class for everyone but USC involves swallowing their pride.

heard a story that even after it was announced Williams to Osu then he showed up
in La that he was contacted by Mario. If he had signed financial aide or loi to Osu then
that would be tampering and a secondary rules violation by the ducks.

Mario is a really good recruiter and he knows the rules. I highly doubt he would
do something like that.. but this is a competitive business now... will have to see but .

I'm dumb. The "Chris Steele Situation" is that UO is checking to see if his signing fin-aid papers with us would put us over the limit.

On Cristobal contacting him: it would depend on who contacted who, and what Williams signed with OSU. There's a chance they're the ones who committed a violation by adding him to the roster before it was final. Coaches are allowed to contact people in the transfer portal, so if Cristobal contacted Williams while he was listed in the portal we're all good.

There are also people saying that if we don't have a scholarship then Williams might walk on until we have a scholarship available.

The transfer portal is such a mess.

To be fair, we would always offer SoCal guys that we knew would jump to USC if/when they got an offer. I don't blame OSU for doing everything they can to get him.

Look at Hodgins for example, he desperately wanted an Oregon offer, didn't get it and now is killing it there. I doubt OSU fans care that Hodgins would have preferred other others out of High School.

That would be so cold if he left a scholly on the table at OSU to walk on at Oregon. How do the Beavers come back from something like that? I don't think I hate the Beavers enough to hope that happens.

Myles Bryant at uw did exactly that. Was thought to be a UCLA lean with Colorado also offering, and he walked on at uw instead.

I think the deal with Bryant was that he actually waited too long, and the scholarships from UCLA, Colorado, and UW were rescinded in favor of other players. At the time he decided to walk on at UW, the only offer he turned down was Cal Poly.

In this case, Williams has an open offer from the Beavers, and is even assumed by that school to be on their roster. If he spurns that offer to pay his own way at Oregon, especially after all the Beaver honks trumpeting his signing, that would be really harsh. I can't believe that would actually happen - it sounds more like heavy speculation from homer Oregon fans.
