Mops was saying that Dunlap could join Lavin at St John's. Anyway, there hasn't been any coach talk the last few days. Maybe that's a good thing.

I honestly think this guy is a great coach and it would be a huge mistake to let him get away. He's got a system that has been very successful at every level he's coached at as well as having NBA experience and five years of coaching with Lute Olson at Arizona. He's got a lot of west coast ties, so recruiting wouldn't be a challenge either.

Anyway, I've already posted his resume here so I won't go into detail. I really think they should take a second look at this guy before they go hire an average mid-major coach.

I don't really get Dunlap as an option. Here's a guy that hasn't proven anything at the Division I level as a head coach, so I don't understand why we'd want to experiment with him. I say let someone else experiment. For whatever reason he hasn't got that shot yet, which makes me wonder a little bit why. With Stevens, Gregory, or Rose you're getting a coach that has experience at Division I level and has been to NCAA's and have very good w/l records. All that being said, obviously I'd cheer for his success if he were named coach.

So I just read that the fan reported that Oregon "wined and dined" Billy Donovan in Indy. Did anyone hear about this?

A lot of guys who have been assistants have turned out to be phenomenal coaches. I'd just as soon "experiment" with a guy who's worked with Lute Olson and George Karl than some mid-major coach who has had a couple good years playing terrible competition, then are able to put together a couple wins at an NCAA tourney. So many of those mid-major coaches don't work out and only thrived with poor competition (not that I'm knocking all small school coaches).

And FYI, he was the de facto HC for Arizona for most of their Sweet 16 year in 08-09.

Not true. Russ Pennell was their interim coach that year. Kevin O'Neill the year prior. Not that I have a horse in this race. I just want to see a solid hire, though I'm not entirely convinced on Dunlap.

I really think if Dunlap was that great of a coach, that our team wouldn't have looked like as big of a train wreck as we did this year. Sure he wasn't the head coach but he still should have had some influence on the team. He could be great but I would prefer a fresh start.

I have no idea if the Ducks are even considering Brad Stevens as a coach, but a quote from Stevens in today's R-G suggests the door may be open a crack...

Dunlap was offered the job first, but he refused it as soon as he found it was only going to be temporary. That's when it was offered to Russ Pennell.

He got his extension last year, through 2015, thought to be in the neighborhood of $900k a year.

even tho that is last years news i wouldnt be surprised to see them do it again real soon
maybe he will listen to the big dollars being offered. but i doubt it. why leave a team that
will be good enough to get back there next year. what a great coach tho. what a future
for that young man. im nervous as to who we will get now. but pk may have a plan and
will surprise us soon.
