Connecting the dots

Post by Mops »

When Ernie Kent was fired I was told Jamie Dixon was the top target. That was almost three weeks now.

Since that time frame we have seen Pat Kilkenny fly to various tournament sites to watch games and then reportedly talk to coaches, about 4 or five.

We've also seen reports come out from national media, local media, wanna-be media, and your grandma talk about who their sources have heard.

Names like Izzo, Donovan, Few, Tubby Smith, Steve Alford, Jamie Dixon, Mark Turgeon, and other have come up.

Now today Dixon talks to local media back in Pittsburgh and he couldn't answer a question that asked him if he'd be at Pitt next year. He dodged the question like he was playing dodge ball back in middle school.

Now today 95.5 the game in Portland is reporting the coaching search has moved to one coach and one coach only.

Mops, glad to see you back around supplying us with some real insider stuff. Dixon isn't my top choice, but he'd still be a tremendous hire.

Man I sure hope so. Another dot you could add in was PK being in NY the same weekend that Dixon was.

Whoops, I can't believe I didn't connect the dots at first. I've just been thrown off by all of this back and forth stuff. I really hope it's Dixon.

Dixon is probably the most realistic best hire possible.

I will be shocked if he signs with us though

Didn't Andy Katz say Dixon is staying at Pitt though? I swear, this is just like recruiting.

Andy Katz has been way off this whole search. He has no source here folks. Mops is definitely more connected than Katz on this one.

I don't think Andy Katz talked to Dixon. I think that's Andy Katz's opinion. Katz tends to be a fairly reliable writer and he is making a pretty good assumption based on Dixon's past (turning down SC, Arizona, among others). However, you have to believe that Dixon is at least considering the Oregon job since he hasn't flat out denied any interest.
“If everybody in this room just want to be real with themselves, this game could have went either way,” he said. “We turned the ball over a lot. We beat ourself. Just be real with yourself right now. We beat ourself.”

By Dixon not denying he's been talked to or is interested in the job, the rumors won't stop about him being a target. As for Katz, I don't think he cares enough about Oregon to have any real contacts out here.

I would love to see Dixon as the next Oregon coach. Izzo would be my first choice, but I just don't see him leaving Michigan State. I like Dixon over everybody else that has been mentioned though.

ESPN is reporting that we've already offered the job to Tubby Smith, however the Minnesota AD is saying he hasn't been contacted. It's hard to sort the fact from fiction.

Yeah. Seems like everytime it's reported that Oregon has offered the job to someone or spoken to a coach, the AD says there has been no contact. My guess is that's another way of saying "we aren't allowed to comment on the situation" or "we don't want to worry our fans when nothing is official".

JDixon already coming?

http://www.nbebasketball.com/w3/2010-03 ... -st-johns/

In other Big East news, there’s now some trepidation in the air for Pittsburgh basketball fans. Jamie Dixon went on a radio show earlier today and when asked about Oregon’s situation stated that he doesn’t ever comment on other jobs. Then one of the hosts, Ron Cook, asked him flat out: “You gonna be the Pitt coach next year?” Dixon laughed nervously and said “same thing I’m not going to talk even about the Pitt job search.” Dixon then canceled two other radio interviews he had scheduled the rest of the day. Now, within the last hour, another Pittsburgh radio voice — the controversial but well-connected Mark Madden — said on his show that a source has told him Dixon has accepted the Oregon job and it will be announced after the Final Four.

Oh man, that would be absolutely huge. Good find dthomas=dixon!!!!!! I would love this hire for so many reasons, and I admit one of them would be to laugh at all the so called experts who said we had no chance with someone like Dixon.
