I liked what I saw from Wilson and Crader. I also expect the other former studs we have recruited to step up and push them for the spots. Honestly our OL go better when Crafer came in and Harkey went out vs IU.

greenyellow wrote: Sat Jan 24, 2026 12:51 am Feels like Oregon is basically done with the portal, save for maybe adding the Weber State RB. The portal haul for Oregon this cycle has been underwhelming outside of Perich, Olesh and maybe Raiola. OL is going to be the biggest question mark throughout spring and fall camp.
I think the O-Line will be good, barring injuries.

It's the early schedule that's a bit concerning to me. We open with Boise State at home, then travel to a rebuilding Oklahoma State team. Their coach was at Tulane last year and brought a lot of players to Stillwater with him, including the QB. I'm not saying that we should be on upset alert, but BSU has always been a thorn in our side and OSU should be more competitive than last year.

I like the fact that we're not scheduling all cupcakes, but I do hope we can get some early playing time for the young guys.

The fact that it won’t be majority portal players already puts them ahead of previous OL groups.

People just dismiss guys if they aren’t immediate contributors. I see the combo of folks stating we shouldn’t expect Iheanacho to be good right out of the gate, while also ignoring Utu, Fox and Addison being highly rated recruits, because they weren’t contributors as true freshmen. There’s lots of talent in the OL room. It just needs time to mature. They might have growing pains early, but they should be good enough to win the early season games, and the key is that they are rolling when the playoffs come around.

I'm reading a lot of push back in places about portal OL based on this season.

Pregnon came in and played on an OL with three portal OL and was a 1st team AP All-American. I think that is the 3rd Duck OL first team AA since 1920. Over 100 seasons of "internally developed" OL and two 1st team AAs. Since the portal opened wide, I think the Ducks have brought in 7 portal OL and now have a third.

Not to pick on World and Harkey, but maybe more a matter of simply "misjudging" the ceiling and/or "missing" on 2/3 of the portal OL, than some "portal effect" causing most of the results?

The 6th year senior with two years starting at USC came in and was an AA. The staff mined two further OL from G5 schools Nevada and Texas State it felt it could "fix" in 8 months, who turned out to basically be what they put on film the previous 4 years. Recruiting is always one part a projection.

To circle back to World and Harkey, those guys got the team to 13-2 and in position to play for an entry to the National Championship game. Not bad.

This is the best take I've seen so far. We took Pregnon and two guys who didn't make all- conference first team at mid majors and they played better than they had at previous stops, not worse.

I don’t think all of the pushback is about taking transfers, but having an OLine with 3 portal guys starting. But guys like Pregnon you definitely have to take.

I think the problem was taking Harkey AND World, I felt that it should’ve been Harkey or World. Almost felt like Terry overreacted to losing Conerly and Cornelius and didn’t trust in his coaching ability to coach up the young guys. I’ve heard multiple people say Wilson looked better than Harkey in the Iowa game and that Crader was looking better than World by the end of the season. It felt like the money spent on the transfer tackles didn’t actually improve the quality of the OLine much last year and it hurt long-term development. I’d feel a lot better regarding the OLine if Wilson, Crader, and Rogers had significant playing time and started multiple games last season.

If that's the case, then the coaching failure is not putting the best players on the field. Having more depth and options via transfers, especially if we're talking one guy, is not a problem.

As far as I understand it, the issue with OL transfers is cohesion. They’re the unit that most needs to play as one, and building a line that’s majority guys who’ve never played with any of the others inevitably creates a period of poor OL play as a unit to start the season.

I remember reading good things about Addison last year and then nothing once the season started.
