Not really, for a few reasons. First of all, I think everybody knows Kent wouldn't leave Oregon so the rumors never start up because he likely rejects any interest immediately. He's said a million times this is his dream job. Second, we wouldn't necessarily know if he was getting looked at if it was just in the preliminary stages. For rumors to start up would mean the interest was reciprocated, and I don't think Kent would show interest in most other jobs. I think a better measurement of his value are the things he's actually done here. Some look at his record and say he should be gone, some say he shouldn't. But that's what you should be looking at.Autzenoise wrote:You guys that want to keep Kent, use these questions as a barameter (sp).
When was the last time that Ernie was recruited by another school? When was the last time we heard that he was a candidate for any open position?
Isn't this a true, unquestionable way to see his value?

It's also pretty tough to recruit coaches away from there Alma mater.
That's really the only reason I could see someone Like Few here.

With Gillespie being fired from Kentucky, we now bump down a notch in the top school category for coaches looking for a HC job.

Anything new here Mops or other insiders? I would think that the longer this drags on, the less of a chance Kent will we back.

I saw Ernie in the beer garden at yesterday's baseball game.
He wasn't drinking, but he probably should have been.

That's probly true. I think they might be waiting till after the tournament to look around and see if they can pull in a great coach, and if not, they'll give Kent another shotduckgrad99 wrote:Anything new here Mops or other insiders? I wonder if there is a chance the Ducks could get Jay Wright from Villanova. Probably not, but he has a great overall record and tournament success and plays in a difficult conference. Probably wishful thinking.

Whether Kent stays or goes, I think it's wrong to let this continue to drag on. IMO, we will here something within the next week on this. My gut tells me that they want Mark Few, and if they don't get him then Kent will be back.

I agree he has to be our top target...considering the other big names schools looking for coaches right now, even Few is not guaranteed! I am just happy his roots are in Eugene/Creswell because I'm sure his phone is ringing a lot! We shall see!duckgrad99 wrote:Tray Dub wrote:So... It's been a few days...

Re: Kent's Future At Oregon Will Be Known Soon
No tournament next year, and Kent should be fired, period. What excuses will Ernie use next year if we lose? Will we make the tourny then have 4 more mediocre seasons? I thought the boosters were getting ansy. Attendance was really down last season. A cupcake preseason schedule will make Kent look better than he really is. I just hate to see all of the talent this team has get wasted. How many other schools in the pac-10 would have brought back their coach after going 2-16 in the division? I'm pissed!!!! ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Well frankly I'm more pissed that the 3 freshman were popping pellets at ducks in the Alton Baker canoe canal.
