But if you look at the guys in the top 30... who's available? No one really... and a lot of them have bad contracts.

I think Deandre Jordan is a fair comparison to Drummond and he's making 10.5 million next season

I guess that is true. I looked up a few guys I liked and they really do have giant contracts. I guess you'd have to eat up a lot of cap space for a serviceable center. I still stand by though that Drummond just isn't fitting the bill for me right now.

IF we take him at 6, that's great. He has a lot of potential, and he could be good. I'd just sleep way better at night if we had Kidd-Gilchrist or Barnes. :/

I like those guys also, but I'm pretty sure they will be gone before the blazers get their pick.

Getting away from the compelling Channing Frye discussion for a minute, the ruling came in on the Bird rights issue.

Players claimed on waiver who are resigned by the claiming team can go over the cap. Thus, we can go over to sign JJ Hickson.

I could go for that but, I'm not sure the Blazers would go for him since he essentially plays the same position as Batum, who they really want to resign. I've never been all that enamored with Batum since he has absolutely no killer instinct and disappears all too frequently. I think that Harden will resign with OKC, but could also jump to somewhere he could be a starter. There just aren't that many guys who are worthy of massive contracts this year so I hope Portland just continues to build a solid rotation that has room to grow and then hit FA again next year since they may have no 1st-rounder in next year's draft.

Harden is more of a small guard than a small forward.

I think there's some similarities between him and Brandon Roy.

OKC is going to have a tough decision. They already have Westbrook and Durant on a max contract and both Harden and Ibaka are restricted free agents next year. I don't think they can keep both considering they're a small market team and the new CBA has stricter penalties for going over the cap.

Harden is a stud in the making. Once he has a real coach that tells him you can't always drive to your left, we got Manu Ginobili v2.

I guess he is since he always came in for Sefalosha. Harden would be a heck of an upgrade over Wes Matthews and Eliott Williams at SG. Right now, Portland has only 1 scorer that makes defense scheme around (LMA) and adding someone like Harden would give Portland a perimeter player for defenses to worry about.

LMA + Mathews = about 21 million

Batum = 10-12 million?

Hickson should be under 5 million

So if they renounce some players they could be around 38 million

I think a max contract for Harden would be around 14-16 million?

giving harden huge money would freak me out. he's a very good player, obviously, but he puts up these numbers by going up against the opposing team's third best defender every night... in a league where most teams are lucky to have one plus-defender. i mean, he's young and talented, but when you give a guy the money he's going to eventually wind up getting, you at least want to KNOW he's capable of being THE guy for your franchise, no?

anyway, taking into account the fact that smokescreens are always running rampant this time of year, a lot of signs are pointing to lillard with the #6. sounds like he really impressed the people one needs to impress at his workout.
