I'm a big fan of Lavin's and I think the haters really look into one year wayyy too much. Steve gets his teams to the NCAA tournament, and that's what I want to see here at UO.

Oh and did I mention recruiting?

I definitely think Lavin would be a better fit than some former Oregon coaches have been... Monson comes to mind.

UCLA dumped him after 1 bad season... Contrast that to the way EK has been coddled.

I would gladly take the Ducks having 1 "down" year in seven, any time. If that wouldn't be an improvement, we must be watching different teams.

Ditto, but I have a hard time believing that Lavin will leave his TV gig. Some coaches actually love not having to the year-round grind of a coach.

Apparently Lavin has been out of coaching so long you guys forgot watching how his teams played. They were always undisciplined and mostly uninterested until tournament time. The guy won because he got talent and you just aren't going to get the same guys here that he got at UCLA. He isn't an upgrade over Ernie Kent.

This is absolutely correct. Time has really taken the rust off of the Lavin era, I guess. UCLA fans HATED Lavin for similar reasons Ernie got on our nerves -- lackluster regular seasons where elite-level talent coasted until March, when they "turned it on" for the first week of the NCAA Tournament before getting spanked by a real team in the Sweet 16.

Steve Lavin would drive you guys NUTS. The inconsistency was maddening. There are so many other good coaches out there that I'm at a loss here.

Just to hammer the point home, do you remember the Pac-10 at the turn of the century? You had Stanford and Arizona, who were annually in the top 5, and won every single Pac-10 title save for Oregon's in 2002. Then you had UCLA, and Oregon/USC, depending on the season. The Pac-10 as a whole was not good. UCLA, with their disorganized NBA talent, feasting on a bunch of terrible teams to get 20 wins every year was not impressive. He was not fired for "one bad year".

Thanks for the info on Lavin guys. I had no idea what his tenure at ucla was like, i just looked at his win loss record & figured he was a pretty good coach. We all hate underachieving even if you are still having success. I definitely don't want a guy that coaches anything like EK.

just read a piece on o-live that pj carlisamo is on oregons short list.
he's a buddy with uncle phil so im not surprised. he might be a good
choice. but at 60 i want someone younger. but pj does teach defense
and his collage teams won. he could do a good job..

People seem to be mentioning Randy Bennett, St Mary's coach. I think Oregon can do better. I don't want another St. Mary's coach, and Bennett hasn't accomplished more than Kent has. Plus, I'm not sure he would be all that great of a recruiter.
