I think we all know what this means. Butler will announce soon that Stevens is offered an extension with a pay raise.

He got his extension last year, through 2015, thought to be in the neighborhood of $900k a year.

CONTRACT TERMS: After coaching Butler into the second round of the NCAAs last season, Brad Stevens was awarded with a contract extension through the 2014-2015 season. The terms of the contract were not disclosed, although he likely is earning close to $900,000 in base salary.

even tho that is last years news i wouldnt be surprised to see them do it again real soon
maybe he will listen to the big dollars being offered. but i doubt it. why leave a team that
will be good enough to get back there next year. what a great coach tho. what a future
for that young man. im nervous as to who we will get now. but pk may have a plan and
will surprise us soon.

Yeah, if I were him I would come back to Butler for one more year with the talent that is returning. Then next offseason I would consider taking a new job. The job may not pay as much as the one Oregon can offer, but will probably be "better" (e.g., tradition and location to live and recruit from).

A lot of guys who have been assistants have turned out to be phenomenal coaches. I'd just as soon "experiment" with a guy who's worked with Lute Olson and George Karl than some mid-major coach who has had a couple good years playing terrible competition, then are able to put together a couple wins at an NCAA tourney. So many of those mid-major coaches don't work out and only thrived with poor competition (not that I'm knocking all small school coaches).

And FYI, he was the de facto HC for Arizona for most of their Sweet 16 year in 08-09.

Not true. Russ Pennell was their interim coach that year. Kevin O'Neill the year prior. Not that I have a horse in this race. I just want to see a solid hire, though I'm not entirely convinced on Dunlap.

That's what it was officially. Not how it was actually playing out in the locker room.

Dunlap was offered the job first, but he refused it as soon as he found it was only going to be temporary. That's when it was offered to Russ Pennell.

I know. But he really was doing most of the head coaching work even though Pennell had the official title.
