Declining for a few years?...2 years ago we were a senior laden team in the ncaa tourney and without a New York Knicks esque drought in the second half would have most likely made a good NCAA run with those kids and the year before were in the elite 8.

Yes I do understand he's gone...But just because he's gone doesn't mean I have to agree with the decision now...And like I've said I'm not gonna stop rooting for the Ducks over it because I do love the Ducks and I hope win...I'm just being realistic about what I feel is gonna happen...I do truly hope I'm wrong...And I'd celebrate an amazing hire just as much as anyone else will, but even then will hold back to say he can replace Ernie until he can show he can recruit to Eugene.

Yes Jeff, we were declining for a few years. Last year we finished dead-last in the conference, this year we finished 8th in the weakest Pac-10 in the last decade . The year you're trying to trump up was a squad with 4/5 starters returning from an elite 8 team and we struggled through the conference and got dumped by Miss St. in the 1st round, it was quite possibly one of the most underachieving teams I've ever been a fan of. It was the beginning of the slide that has brought us here.

Your original post quoted someone who called fans celebrating Ernie's removal arrogant. Arrogance, my friend, is the blind and unsupported assumption that nobody other than Ernie can succeed here. Personally, I'm well aware of a young coach (considered a semi fast riser) that would be tremendously interested in the job, should the UO show interest; and I bet he'd be pretty good.

Oregon sucked before Kent… sucked for a long time…. Then we Won two Pac10 Tourney’s…. a Pac10 Title… 2 Elite 8’s…. one of only 20 teams to do so over the last Decade…. that number dwindles if you only go back to 2002 the first year Oregon went… Enjoy the token upsets of UA and UCLA every few years at the Matt… that was what we enjoyed before Kent and that is all we will enjoy after Kent… What arrogance, by both fans and boosters… reality will be very sobering when there is a total lack of Coaches interested in the job…. Steve Lavin? Tubby Smith? these guys couldn’t recruit or win at UCLA and Kentucky… why would anyone think they would do better at Oregon?... Mark Few?... Jay Wright?... Mark Few doesn’t want anything to do with the expectations at Oregon. And he has never seen an Elite 8…. Jay Wright, the fact he is mentioned is laughable…. Tell me who wants this JOB…. and give me a reason they would leave their current position for Oregon?... And no up and comers… we are not rebuilding… we are supposed to be opening Matt with a big name coach to sell seats…

wahhhhhhhhhh!!!! Ernie Kent is gone! He was the greatest coach ever, we were heading in the right direction.

Dude seriously, let it go.
You would be surprised how many people will be interested in this job. You may think there's nothing to like about this job but money talks and UO can give someone like Mark Few twice what he's making now. Even if they can't attract an established coach, do you honestly think a hot assistant is going to turn down a big 6 conference job with a lot of money and resources with a brand new arena opening?

Kent is gone, he deserved it, you are one of 18 people in the world who felt he should back next year, just give up the fight. He was not fired to fill seats at the new arena, he has fired because he failed at his job.
Actually I'm pretty sure you're gonna be suprise at how many people aren't interested in it...Like Tubby who has already come out and said he's not.
show me where Tubby says he's not interested. He said he hasn't been contacted by Oregon and that he's happy in Minnesota but didn't comment at all about his interest in coaching at UO. If you checked for facts before blindly stating a dumb opinion you would know things like this.
Actually I very much did read the article...And if you have the inability to read in to that I'm sorry but that is what he's saying.

I think we go after Smith but more than likely end up with an up-and-coming coach who will probably build his name here. I still think a good person to go after would be Scott Duncan at UCLA since he has ties here and widely recognized as a good recruiter. I would also like them to go after Mark Turgeon at Texas A&M but am not sure how interested he would actually be.

we did not get better as the year went on, in fact we got progressively worse, even players individually got worst (most notably Dunnigan) and now our top scorer is gone so I don't know what momentum you're referring to.
The players got worse?...Dunnigan looked the best he has all season in the last two games...LL finished the season playing great...Humphrey is brimming with confidence right now with finally being healthy...Jeremy Jacob has by far and away improved and has given us a great inside threat and an actual 4 to play next to Dunnigan when we want...in your next post you say that I don't get the facts...All your doing is looking at the records and not looking at the actual play of the players and the circumstances of their injuries and or suspensions...This team is so much better than it was a month and a half ago it's not even funny

You cannot just look at the last game against Washington State and all of a sudden say the players and team improved. Look at the players stats in games before that. They were terrible, no consistency at all.

Guys, you can't argue with someone who is completely delusional. All the Kent supporters have one thing in common & is what they base their arguement on... they're scared. They claim there's no good coach in the country that would want to leave their program to come here. How do they know that? They claim we can't anyone better than EK & if we don't luck out we will become the osu of a couple years ago... WE'RE ALREADY THERE! Back to back finishes at last & second to last in the conference.

They're simply afraid of change & are happy with mediocrety if it means we don't have to take any chances.

Is that the attitude that has made the football program into one of the best in the country? Is that how we're gong ever accomplish anything more than a cute little program that makes a run every 5 years? The way things are going the time in between our runs is getting longer & longer. Kent has set us up for a MAJOR rebuilding process once this sophmore class graduates. He's on the verge of being fired after he lost 4 starters two years ago, how do you think he'll handle losing EIGHT?!

If he somehow sticks around we will probably be decent the next 2 years, maybe even make the tourney & EK will be pounding his chest throwing it in the face of all his detractors. Then all those guys will graduate & we will be in for an absolutely brutal stretch that will make these past to years look like the golden age of Duck basketball. Kent has to go or this program will become an absolute HOLE & the mighty Matt Knight arena will an empty dump.

+1

by the way, WCC title game is tonight, with any luck it'll be Mark Few's final non-tourney game roaming the Zags sideline.

I agree with you on most of what you say here. I think we go after Smith also, but he's sort of old and hasn't been a strong recruiter. Doubt Turgeon is interested. If we're looking at an established coach that might consider leaving, I wouldn't mind putting feelers out there for Kevin Stallings at Vanderbilt. I know that one's out of the blue, but he's been successful in a tough league at a school with not a lot of basketball tradition. Also I don't think he's making a ton of money.
Otherwise I'd be quite happy with an up-and-coming guy.

The EK supporters fail to realize that outside of the elite 8 team a few years ago, this team hasn't done crap in 8 seasons. Not just 1,2,3 or 4, 8 FREAKIN YEARS!!!! During that time, Kent's teams have consistently finished in the bottom of the conference. I don't expect first every year, but for some people to say that we couldn't do better than Kent is just ridiculous.

1. That "drought" was exactly why people thought Ernie had completely lost it over his last couple years. Praying for a three point shot is not good coaching. We were deathly afraid of Mississippi State's shot blocker, for some reason, even though Leunen and Catron were having early success going right at him. Malik had a couple shots blocked when he came in from the baseline, and for some reason our entire offense shifted to the longball. If we continued with what was working -- Leunen and Catron in the paint -- Oregon wins that game. That's the second NCAA Tournament game (Seton Hall in 2000) where the loss is squarely on Kent.

2. Oregon would have "most likely made a good NCAA run with those kids"? In 2008? We were a #9 seed. If we would have won our first round game, we would have been playing #1 Memphis. They would have SMOKED us off the court. That "good NCAA run" would have ended in the first weekend, lol.

Exactly, and Oregon didn't even deserve to make the tournament that season in the first place.

He had a good run at Seton Hall but that was 20 years ago so I don't know if he has it in him to stay long-term at Oregon. Someone younger would be better.

He worked magic at Seton Hall, but he was pretty underwhelming in the NBA. I also question his long term commitment if we get him. Dixon is still on top of my list, hopefully he's interested.
