I was making a list of potential coaches and his name popped up on my list a few days ago. I crossed it off though because of his age. I think there are better options.

I guess Carlesimo hasn't failed enough times in the NBA. Maybe he'd make a good college coach. Sort of in the Tim Floyd mold, without the recruiting violations...I would hate that hire to be honest for a variety of reasons. There have to be better options.

I'm curious if Jeff Capel is being considered. Yes a lot of Capel's success at Oklahoma is due to Blake Griffin, but he's the guy who recruited him. I've heard that Terrence Jones loves Capel (obviously not a good reason to bring in a coach). Capel is a fantastic recruiter and has a lot of potential as a coach.

Well he did take Seton Hall to the title game.... lost in overtime to an impressive Michigan team.

PJ would be a very interesting decision. The man can flat coach. I get the "too old" thing, and that's a legitimate concern in this 24/7/365 world of college athletics. But it's not like he needs to travel the country and do 25 in-home visits like Chip Kelly does for recruiting. I do think that he's more than capable of bringing in 3 solid recruits a year. I guess it would come down to whether or not the University feels like going through another coaching search in 5-6 years.

Capel is one person that I've wondered about. He seems like a guy who would help build a program. Look what he's done at Oklahoma after the whole Kelvin Sampson situation. The only problem is he's had a bad year and there have been some off-court issues (none of which I'm well versed on) so he may not be the best one to replace Kent with. Among current head coaches, Pitt's Jamie Dixon is my top choice, followed by, in no particular order: Turgeon, Tubby, Gregg Marshall, and Brad Stevens.

One thing to remember is that a big group of Oregon fans had a problem with the way Ernie interacted with players via yelling during games and timeouts. Ernie changed his coaching style after that criticism. PJ is a yeller times 10. How would that go over with today's athletes? There are better options out there. At his age you're going to need to do a new hire in 5-6 years again.

"I'm committed to one thing right now, and I think everybody realizes that. And that's getting the most out of this team, and taking this team as far as I possibly can take it," Turgeon said. "If we continue to win, my name is going to pop up with other jobs. That's the nature of the business. I don't get caught up in that.

"You guys know me well enough. I don't have a huge ego. I just don't get caught up in that. I'm always going to do what's best for my program and for my family and for me. I'm just trying to win games."

A source familiar with the situation said Monday that Smith has "no interest at all" in Oregon's opening.

I think he may be the top guy for the job since he seems to have no problem moving around and his salary is similar to Kent's (1.2 mil). I want Dixon from Pitt more but after reading he turned down USC and Arizona since his family was settled in sort of makes me question if he would even consider the job at Oregon.

So Belloti is meeting with Kent tommorow morning. I hope it's made official tommorow that Kent is gone, although it probably will be at least another week before we have a new coach.
