Re: Wichita State @ Oregon (Ducks lead series 1-0)
McGough is going to get the hate again, but I guess I'll give him a break tonight. He had two bunt base hits against him in the 9th, and Pulfer blatantly tagged the runner at first out after the runner had wandered off the bag, but the umpire wasn't looking. Horton erupted, the crowd erupted, the dugout erupted, everyone saw it but the guys who needed to. The 9th was just a series of unfortunate events. The bunts couldn't have been executed any better.
Ducks left too many runs on the bases tonight, included a bases loaded 8th.

Not to mention Boer didn't do so great tonight. 6 walks and 4 runs in 4.2 innings, yikes. We can still win this series.oregontrack wrote:McGough is going to get the hate again, but I guess I'll give him a break tonight. Serna has sucked since his suspension too, what's up with him?

ehhh. I guess the baseball background in me stops short of saying the guy is 'sucking'. Sometimes people start slow at the plate, sometimes they start fast and come back to earth. Serna's putting the ball in play but things just aren't finding holes. He's got the 4th highest OBP among our regulars, it's not like he's a black hole atop the lineup. Outside of a pitcher's W/L record, batting average is baseball's most overrated stat. Serna will bounce back.

First OSN game of the year in about 20 minutes. Remember our first year when we didn't have any good starting pitchers outside of Erik Stavert on Fridays, and OSN did nothing but Sunday games where Boer or some other lame duck freshman got drilled every single time? I used to hate OSN telecasts. Almost guaranteed a Duck loss by 9 runs.

Those were some tough games to watch. So glad that they have improved to the point of being watchable.oregontrack wrote:First OSN game of the year in about 20 minutes. 3-1 Ducks, bot 3
Marder with a 2-run HR. Marder sent one to the tracks earlier, he's smashing the ball today.

3-2 Ducks, bot 4, Aaron Jones' errors in right have led to both runs. Jones is pitching well so far, not his fault this game can be tied with one swing of the bat.

Another inning, another three Ducks stranded on the bases...
I'm NOT defending our bullpen's performance this season (6 of our 8 losses have come from blown saves), but man. If clutch hitting weren't our kryptonite (I know, I know, it's gotten better) I doubt even our 'pen could have blown all those opportunities.

4-3 Wichita, top 5
Bad, bad defense by the Ducks today. Jones boots another in right that leads to a run, then Mendenhall picks it up and throws it past everyone in the infield, scoring a guy who should have stopped at second.
Christian Jones lost control of his pitches and can't make it out of the 5th, which is unfortunate since we're going to need to use the bullpen so much tomorrow.
