HBO special on college sports
Wednesday evening. Apparently they will delve into the "pay to play" culture.

Re: HBO special on college sports
I'm not clicking on anything leading to SBB but from what I've gathered prior to this, the entire HBO special is full of hearsay and old news from back when Pat Dye was still coaching. This would be like bringing out Jim Lambright/Don James and delving into the facade that was the "Nordstrom yacht," Billy Jo Hobert's sweet rides etc.maxduck wrote:Wednesday evening. As far as Auburn is concerned this will be a case of sour grapes. None of those players amounted to anything and several other players have come out saying they are full of it. You would think by now the NCAA would have been investigating a long time before some HBO special came along.

Here is the story from CBS for those who don't want to read brooks, sounds like the interview will be airing on Wednesday night.

This doesn't look like it just implicates AU, but also tOSU, Mich St and LSU. Regardless of how he played at AU, if what he is saying is true, look for Tressel to be gone and the NCAA to be back at AU in force.

Makes me wonder, why now? Will definitely need to watch this with quite some skepticism.
Duck07 Thanks for the link I turned Frontline on last night and had just missed that story. Looking forward to when they air Football High as well.

So, because a player gets injured or doesn't amount to a superstar, it's okay to pay them? I wonder how much the good players made...Icculus wrote:As far as Auburn is concerned this will be a case of sour grapes. Oh, and because they come out and tell the truth, way after the fact so nobody gets in actual trouble, and the other guys' reputations are tarnished and the retaliate by saying they are liars means the whistle-blower had nothing to tattle on?

Because I'm at work and simply don't feel like arguing, I'll let this fan's thoughts speak for mine as I agree with most of it.

People say the same thing about us RE: Lyles. The reality is that Auburn fans probably have rational reasons for their feelings on the subject, just like we did with ours. We both may end up being wrong, or right. Only time will tell.NCDucks09 wrote:So, because a player gets injured or doesn't amount to a superstar, it's okay to pay them? Re: HBO special on college sports
I just think that the timing on this is real curious. Why wait until now, after a Natl Title to come out with these accusations. If the experience was so damaging to their lives, why weren't they going public about it a year ago? Two years ago? Now, after Cam-Gate, and the Natty it does have the feel of someone piling on over sour grapes..............Or they could be just crusaders for all that is just in College Football and simply trying to do the right thing; but the fact they (allegedly) took the money (in some cases pushing the program to that point intentionally) provides me with ample skepticism.
I'll wait and see how this shakes out past a SbB and HBO Real Sports doc.

Re: HBO special on college sports
I'm curious as to these guys' motivation for giving these interviews and or this "information".... Seems a little odd that they would come out and throw their alma mater under the bus without any real motivation... Two sides to every story, I've learned this lesson over the last few seasons..... look no further than the LMJ situation.
Crusaders for the betterment of college football? Maybe, but doubtful IMO.
Sour grapes over something that we'll never know about? Could be, sounds feasible.
HBO paid them for the interviews and they embellished a little bit? Possibility.
Until stuff like this is proven with hard evidence its hard form me to judge. People in the glass house need to be careful what they throw around in there.

I wouldn't be at all shocked if some of these players were actually paid since it semms to happen at just about every school.
